Hockey Regular Season

Just found this and had to share because of the awesomeness of the play.

Do you see the fucking artistry there? My God! The re-direct on the pass to Stevie Y, his drop pass back after he's taken off his skates, and shot to the top corner, over the goalie's stick-side shoulder, after the sliding Yzerman/puck made him cover the post on his glove side.

Just incredible!

Just whooshing around online and happened to bump into this hockey-related (hehe) tidbit:

More pics here.

Looks like the Great One can do no wrong, on the ice, or off.

OK, since my Paulina Gretzky post didn't go over so well, maybe bringin y'all back to Carrie Milbank

Just an FYI (also, to anyone interested in ACTUAL HOCKEY), I think your digital cable provider might be providing you some extra hockey. (Till when, I'm not sure.)

I can't speak to the Center Ice package (as I just subscribed), but the NHL Network (it's with the digital sports tier (300s) on my cable network) is offering a free preview right now. (There was a show hosted by the lovely Ms. Milbank earlier today.) And, at least as of yesterday, the Center Ice package was free. (Again, I subscribed last night, so obviously I am getting all games now.)

But, the CI package channels (in the PPV channel tier on my digital cable (700s) provider) are now offering multiple feeds of some games. So, I'm praying I might get alternate (out of town) feeds of the Pens' games when they are playing in Pittsburgh. If that is true, it would make the money spent SO much more worth it!

Side note: there are actual games on the NHL Network; right now, they have the CBC feed of the Pens/Leafs game.

Fuck yeah! A Pens game AND Coaches Corner!

I'm so overly giddy about hockey and being able to watch it again, gotta go back to the old standard Canadian girl avatar, in honor of the hockey season. (Well, that and because she's fucking SMOKIN' HOT!)

I'll back that. She's as tuff as a Waffle House steak!!!! Yes, that's a good thing.

Wow! Just watching ESPN while waiting for hockey and in the scroll at the bottom of the screen, it said a few interesting things.

(Head's up Rick) The Minnesota Wild are looking to make a trade to get some value for Marian Gaborik, rather than losing him to FA after this season.

And, the NHL Board of Governors is considering placing a 2ND team in Toronto, either via expansion or relocation.

I don't know if I agree with 2 teams for TO, but it's GOTTA be through relocation. If the NHL expands again, and then some US teams falter/fail, it'll create some interesting scenarios. Plus, if they add Toronto2, they probably will add at least one other expansion team at the same time. Another Canadian city? Hamilton? Winnipeg? What about KC? They almost got the Pens a year+ ago? And Vegas has been a rumor for some time now.

Hmm. I think before they expand, endangered (financially struggling) teams like Nashville (who was just purchased by a Canadian businessman) and Columbus might be good opportunities. (It'd make me sad that Ohio'd lose an NHL team, though. But if they're not a viable business, they need to move.)

Wow.....she's HOT......

I would like to" PUCK" her

I would like to "high stick" her

I would like to put it in her penalty "box"

I would like to get a penalty for "butt ending" her

I would like to "poke check" the back of her throat

I would do her even if she WAS "ragging"

I would like to put a "screen shot" all over her face

I wonder what kind of "stick handling" skills she has?

I would like to "sweep check her"..............................................................I don't know what the means

That's the greatest innuendo-laden hockey term rant I've heard in ages..... maybe EVER!

(I'd have gone with something lame like "I'd 'take the body' all night long." or something.)

I've gotten to see 3 Penguins games already this year (and missed another).

This is absolutely fantastic! I'm going to have to invest in some Coors Light stock because I have a feeling there's gonna be quite a bit of it purchased this season.

Pens were down 1-0 in the 3rd and then just turned it on. 3 goals in 3 1/2 minutes and then an empty netter. WOW! What a great game!

There was an article in the paper this morning with "Gay"borik's agent saying it wasn't fair how badly the fans were badmouthing the poor baby for not resigning with the team. Boo hoo. I hope we at least get some decent hockey equipment for the pussy. And guess what, he's hurt again. Wow. I'd say that alone is worth giving him a few million $$$ extra.

That big pile of shit deserves nothing. I don't care where he goes and what we get in return, just so long as his whiny ass is shipped out of town.

Ended that way. But, for the better part of 2+ periods, it was looking pretty tight and I was just HOPING that they'd break out. Canes played 'em tough!

EVERY team is playing today! Should be a great day for hockey all across North America! (And with the college football matchups and World Series game, quite the overall sports day here in the US.)

Cam Ward had 57 saves for the Canes last night. Amazing! We won which is even better. It would have sucked for the guy to have such a great effort and get the loss.

I saw that! (That would be a boon to anyone who had him in fantasy hockey.)

After the crap game I watched last night, I was REALLY upset about missing hockey.

Congrats on the win. Nice to see them rebound after playing (most of) a good game against the Pens. Who got spanked last night.

Speaking of last night, almost NOTHING went according to "plan".

How is Brian Boucher not the starter in San Jose? 2 starts; 2 shutouts. Nabokov's been a sieve the past few games/this season.

Philly (previously winless Philly) knocks off Jersey (and Marty Brodeur) 2 days in a row.

Colorado throwing Buffalo under the bus and winning in a shootout.

And most of all, Toronto nailing Ottawa to the wall and throwing darts at them. WTF is up with Ottawa this season? I know it's early, but other Dany Heatley, they're looking pretty darned unimpressive. (Gerber hurt or not.)

It seems this parity thing is running rampant in most team sports here in North America.

I swear I was gonna have a meaningful reply to this, then I just sat on my ass and watched the avatar for a good 3 mins. Now I can't remember WTF I was going to type.

Much like good music and winning games, it never gets old!

Minnesota got a way with a big one last night. With around 20 seconds they gave up what appeared to be the game tying goal to Columbus. Then the refs reviewed it and somehow came to the conclusion that Nash had his stick above his waist when he tipped the puck in (which no one but the person reviewing the film could see). I'll take it, but I'm sure that call will come back to haunt the team somewhere down the line.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Canes pissed one away last night. I was mixing a Jack Daniel's when my friend yelled we just lost. Drink didn't taste so damn good after that.

hsf, dear god man! First time I've seen the new avatar. My heart skipped a beat or I briefly passed out. Maybe both.

Hey, my good man! Glad to see ya back (and having a bit o' the drink). Glad you approve of the avatar. I do my best to keep the viewing public happy. lol

Sorry to hear that, Clutch. The Penguins almost did the same damn thing last night. Jumped out to a HUGE lead and then damn near pissed it away by the end of the game. Between their scares and how crappy I'm doing in fantasy hockey, this year so far has been pretty lousy, hockey-wise, other than getting to watch so much (with no team around here anymore and buying Center Ice).

(BTW, watching the Canes/Sens game that's about to start.)

**edit - Seriously, WTF is up with Jean-Sebastian Giguere? He started off the season horribly, came around, and went through another bad 2 game stretch, back up again, and now tonight shits the bed. This is like the Kiprusoff rollercoaster a few years back. (And we all know how THAT turned out for me.) I'm not sure when to sit him and when to start him; I'll miss the shutouts and goodgames and start him in his sieve-like games.

As much work as I've got this weekend, I can't wait for tonight. Pens game, Coaches Corner, and a couple of late games.

Looking forward to a little scouting too (for some fantasy players). Not a full slate, but a lot of games tonight.

SO I had a look at how our teams are doing...

Clutch - 'Canes are in 1st in the Southeast

HSF - Pens are tied for 2nd behind the (surprisingly) good Rangers

and my Wild are still tied for first while finishing up a grueling west coast road trip

Congrats so far gang!

My Wild play @ Vancouver tonight that doesn't start until 9pm so hopefully I can stay awake until the end of the game.

You my boy Blue! We stole one in the 3rd last night. Man, the beers taste better and games are flat out more fun when you're winning. I stick with the Canes regardless, but life is pretty good right now in hockey land.

I wish I would be tasting the beers at all. (Looking forward to next weekend for that very reason.) And yeah, I'm the lone non-first place team, but with our two best D-men down, I'm very pleased to be in 2nd place. So long as they can hold that place, when Gonch and Ryan come back, we might be able to make a run for first.

(Love the Old School reference, Clutch! )

    • Man, I really miss places like this! I could spend hours in them just looking at all the stuff. You’re a lucky man to live near there.
    • New album out June 28. Not my style per se, but well executed IMO.
    • "Still in Love" and "Sweet Melody" by Lancia
    • I posted about this record store (well, CD store really... it has a fair amount of vinyl, but the focus is CDs) 2 years ago. I go there about once a year, and every single time I do I keep kicking myself to go there more often. Not only for the sheer enjoyment of being able to shop the music genres we love and view all these releases in hand, but because it's so damned overwhelming. There's never time to go through things at leisure, pulling out boxes under racks to rummage, because even flying through things and NOT exploring new artists, it's still 3-4 hours to go through the alphabet... let alone stopping and using their listening station (they'll let you listen to used/opened material, not still sealed merch). It's only an hour and a half drive for me each way, so there's really ZERO excuse for me not going over there more frequently. This time I remembered to take a bunch of pictures, pulling out releases from artists we enjoy just to show what they had in stock... a lot of material you'll never see at any mainstream store (even if there is any that carry CDs anymore). Sure, the prices are more expensive than what you'll pay at Amazon and other online stores, but they're not as bad as you would think, and there are bargains to be had amongst the used material when it comes to OOP discs. And to be fair, being able to view all this stuff in-hand is worth it IMO. (Although every now and then you'll see an OOP disc that is WAAAAAAAY overpriced, but at least they have the odd and unusual.) They have one of those old-school "buyer club" stamp cards, with 20 spaces. One stamp per disc purchased. Every other stamp you get a dollar off, and when you fill a card you get $16.99 off your purchase and then you get a new card. On your birthday, you get $1 off every CD and that's on top of the buyer club card discounts. First the pics from when I was going through the aisles, starting with some general pics. Every single artist has its own title card, so look at the variety and depth of the artists. Also, look at the overstock in boxes underneath all the racks! That's the shit I never have time to go through (except when there's a specific artist I'm focusing in on). You've got CDs in the racks, then ringing the entire room is a shelf of box sets and limited editions, then above that VHS tapes, and above that vintage audio equipment. Sections for DVDs and blu-rays (not just music, but movies as well, including a small section of 4K and 3D titles). There's a smaller upper room level that is nothing but vinyl. If you're going to go, plan at least a full day, not just a quick drive-by. They're open from 11AM - 7PM Eastern Time.     Expensive at $249.99, but how many places have a still-sealed copy of the Vanden Plas Epic Works box set???     And now the stuff I picked up this trip. Most is completist fodder. There are a few artists where I literally want an example of every single pressing, even if I already have other label/year/country versions... call me OCD.               I picked up this one for trade/resale even though I already have it, as it is the LOOOONG out of print original fan club edition.     Hmmm... didn't know there was a solo effort, and it seems to be thematically related to the Threshold album "Legend of the Shires".       More OCD completist fodder. I didn't know that Avalon Records (Japan) licensed releases for South Korea.         Live albums aren't normally my thing, but this appears to be way out of print, and for $10 why not?   A few OOP releases for my multichannel audio collection       I'll be posting more about these once I get my shit together, but I'm WAAAAAAAAAY fucking late to the game when it comes to the Jethro Tull 40th anniversary CD + DVD special editions. They only reason I knew about them at all is that I saw a blurb about the 40th anniversary edition of "Broadsword and the Beast", which is my alltime favorite JT album, the first one I ever heard, and I love the album cover... which led me down the rabbithole of all these anniversary editions and their multichannel mixes. Unfortunately a few of them are now OOP and insanely in the $150-300 range. I ordered all of the ones that were still in print (or that had been reprinted), but there were still 4 that I needed... and they had one of them.   And lastly, the most expensive purchase of the day, going back to previous box set discussions, this was one that wasn't on my radar at the time it came out. Based upon eBay listings, it's now a tough find... and they had one still sealed. No, it's not the Amazon exclusive that was signed by Biff Byford, but autographs aren't important enough for me to spend the $500-$1,000 that the signed version now brings. This one will do nicely at a fraction of the cost... a huge and hefty tome (literally).   So when all was said and done, a great (and expensive!) shopping day, but a place I wholeheartedly recommend visiting should you find yourself out here in flyover country. JL Records 380 Brown St West Lafayette, IN 47906 https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041894265953
