No official release yet so don't know when exactly the album is supposed to come out but I'm assuming it's this year.

I'm sure you're all brimming with excitement.

  2. The bracket I filled out this year might be my worst ever. I had Kentucky and St. Mary's in the Elite Eight and Auburn in the Final Four...

I'm really looking forward to Gonzaga vs. Purdue. You know Purdue is looking to make amends after last year's debacle.

  3. Kind of a boring song in my opinion. Nothing they've done since they reunited has really moved me, a few great songs on each album but a lot of plodding, bluesy stuff as well that I just can't get into. I'll listen to anything Overland sings at least once though!

  4. idk guys, I think you can only polish a turd so much. It's definitely a great attempt and as whiplash1972 says, there have been a lot of such projects since, what, 2007ish?

But IMO St. Anger has never been a bad album only because of the snare drum, or the lack of guitar solos, or the long songs. It's a bad album because it's an album full of bad songs. Metallica is supposed to be badass! This is not that! Listen to Invisible Kid or Purify and tell me what's even a little cool about those songs. The whole thing is just so whiny and cringey, definitely a product of its era which was the worst for metal as a genre.

Nice to hear that AOR had a big influence on someone that grew up past the 80's music scene.

Good writing and the 80's movies someone is putting the songs to really helps bring the songs out.

I went through a bunch of the synthwave songs on  this site, not a genre I ever looked at much.

Sounds like some decent stuff there, might have to pay more attention to it.

Look into Magic Dance and LeBrock too, those are a couple of great projects that blend synthwave and AOR.

Europe – The Final Countdown (1986)

    Fate – A Matter Of Attitude (1986)

TNT – Tell No Tales (1987)

    Alien – Alien (1988)

Stage Dolls – Stage Dolls (1988)

    Talisman – Talisman (1990)

Pretty Maids – Jump The Gun (1990)

Work Of Art – Work Of Art (2008)

Treat – Coup De Grace (2010)

    H.e.a.t - H.e.a.t II (2020)

What do we think? They have the wrong TNT album IMO (Intuition!) but otherwise pretty solid. Also nice to see some more modern albums getting some love.

  7. Interesting that they call it an AOR album...I wonder if that was intentional seeing as how their last one was closer to hard rock and IMO not up to par with their better works. Uninspiring production and Jidhed's voice sounded a little weak...

Eternity on the other hand was awesome, but geez, that was already 10 years ago. Do they still have enough left in the tank?

  8. Not many details other than "it sounds great" (phew!) but has been submitted to Frontiers so we'll probably get a sample in the coming weeks.

  9. Great song but I have a super random question...

Is there a reason why the singer is always hiding his left hand in these videos? I could have sworn I read somewhere that he was missing a finger or something like that but I don't remember exactly what it was and now it's bugging the crap out of me. It's no judgement and I love his voice but I'm so annoyed that I can't remember this meaningless detail. :P

Anyway, great song, I definitely prefer their Scandi style to this but I'll definitely give whatever comes after it a shot too.

  10. They had an absolutely stellar run from 2004 to 2008 with 11 Dreams, The Hours That Remain, and Architect of Lies. I will NEVER get tired of listening to those melodic metal masterpieces. Incredible vocals and production.

They've fallen off a bit since then IMO (lead vocalist left the band) but this is still pretty good. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how much some of the riffs on the album sound like they could have been on Architect of Lies. Definitely better than their previous album.

  11. As a HUGE fan of Life's Not Out To Get You, I thought their last album was absolute crap, the vocals in particular. It didn't even sound like the same band and honestly made me think that they were just ripping off other bands in the scene and had run out of material to, uh, draw inspiration from. Hugely disappointing.

Thankfully, that song Geoff posted is a lot better! There's still something off-putting about the singing (seriously, what happened to that guy?) but the song itself is much more in line with the pop punk style I not-so-secretly love. I'll check out the album.
