  1. Go easy guys, I think you're being ''much too hard on him'' ;-) gotta re-visit this one as I was a little disappointed because as an album it looked very promising (everything was pointing to a great album, released in 1989, flashy new guitar player, good video for ''hard on me'' - typically 80s) and then it just didn't deliver like I was hoping. Will spin this again tonight......
  2. New album out on Frontiers Records in May. I only know their debut album so haven't really been following them recently... any fans here?
  3. What Glen and Nightrain are saying is exactly what I meant. Also, the reason for low sales isn't necessarily the change of style but bad sales in general and because they had lost their momentum years ago. Sub-par songs didn't help either so I think it's a combination of all those things
  4. What about the Illusions era and massive tour in support of the albums? Sure, musically it wasn't the same anymore but they would have still ended on a good note because that's when they really took off and were the biggest band in the world. Of course it's just exposure in the media and popularity but I think it still counts for something they were everywhere, TV, radio, news headlines so that should count for something, they were a pop cultural phenomenon during the early 90s You could trim both 'Illusion' albums and make one bona-fide great disc - waaaaaaay too much 'filler' on those discs for me. I haven't bothered with the band since it became 'Axl And Blokes'. My cousin paid a small fortune for a 'meet 'n' greet' when they played the O2 Arena, and I didn't recognise anyone in the photos (apart from my cousin, obviously.) But, hey, Axl owns the name so he can trash it in whatever way he sees fit ... Sure, one disc would have made a great album (btw I tried to do that once but gave up couldn't decide on which songs and in what order plus there were 3 damn songs I wanted on there that took away 30 minuets of disc time :-) But doesn't the fact they released 2 albums on the same day mean anything? Just because of the ambition / megalomania behind it, like when Kiss released 4 solo albums simultaneously (sure they weren't amazing records but still made history
  5. They've played London a couple times now and some dates in the US so they're gettin around quite a bit (even a show in Switzerland soon also in support of Amaranthe). Don't know where you live but if there's a venue they'll play it

  7. In my opinion, there'll be a new album but not in this couple of years, maybe one in the next 3-4 or 5 years, or maybe one if ever the classic line up get together again. Axl is a businessman genius, back before 'Chinese Democracy' was released, there are at least 4-5 tracks were leaked to the market, he's testing the water to see the response and simultaneously just giving a big hope to the music industry that GNR is about to release a new album, but the new album never come out until he announced in the late 2007 that GNR's new album is done. This action was 'rewarded' with a 1-million CDs order from Bestbuy if i'm not mistaken and while Bestbuy is eventually struggling to sell em off one by one, Axl walks away with a big pile of cash, not to mention the endless gigs they perform after the release Yeah I think Chinese Democracy didn't sell that well. Question is, will bestbuy or target do the same with the next release or will they be more careful in ordering large amounts of CDs because of bad experience in the past? According to the band members they are working on a new album and will release something, but always said to be patient as well and that it's not gonna be in the near future. I saw Slash with Myles Kennedy too in 2012 (twice) and both shows were very good. I mean Slash now has an impressive catalogue he can pick from and can play GNR, Snakepit, Velvet Revolver or his own songs so this pretty much guarantees a good setlist every time
  8. Yeah the new line up of gnr has done quite a bit of touring over the past couple years. I saw them in 2006 and 2010, Let me tell you the 2006 show was amazing, maybe it was just a good night for them but I was surprised at how good Axl's voice was. But right around 2010 or a year or two later is when things started to go downhill. I saw the trailer for the new 2014 dvd and thought WHAT THE FXXX!?!?!?! I mean, why would they release this? And what was even more insulting is how they try to make it out to be this huge, amazing thing, dvd of the best concert of all time or something. But some people seem to dig it, I know a couple people that got the DVD and if you check the comments on recent performances or the 2014 dvd trailer opinions are mixed, but there's a good portion of people who still like it. I decided to not go see them in 2012 when I had the chance and don't think I will again, but have fond memories of that 2006 concert
  9. Care of Night sound a bit like Diamond Dawn I think, or similiar singers at least
  10. You know what I find interesting? I myself don't usually like live albums and don't get excited when they are announced, and neither do most people here from what I can tell (and I don't know anybody that does personally for that matter) So knowing that, WHY ON EARTH are live albums always rated the highest out of a band's entire discography on rateyourmusic.com?? On that site for example H.E.A.T.'s 4 studio albums have scores between 3.32 and 3.64 and the live album has a 3.66... Or Guns n' Roses' terrible Live Era album is at 3.6 only slightly below the 3.75 that Appetite For Destruction has (the Use Your Illusion releases rated 3.4 and 3.5) or Thin Lizzy's Live & Dangerous (alright this is one case where it's justified and I love that album) has a 4.15. But the BBC and Peel Sessions releases (neither one a proper studio release) have scores above 4 which none of their studio releases got So..... Is there something we're missing? Does the ''average'' music listener really love live albums, or are people less strict / more forgiving when rating live albums, is it because of Peter Frampton, I don't know...... or are the people voting on that site just weird? ;-)
  11. 2015 would be a great year to release a couple of 30th anniversary reissues... Classic masterpieces such as Ratt's ''Invasion Of Your Privacy'' or Dokken's ''Under Lock And Key'' come to mind
  12. Thanks alot Glen, will have a listen
  13. Not sure if this would be labelled as ''westcoast'' but try Michael Thompson Band's debut ''How Long'' great album. Other than that... Jez's list is quite extensive (listening to Outrider's ''Love Is Killing Me'' on YouTube right now gonna have to check the album out I think sounds very cool) but maybe try Frederic Slama's ''AOR'' releases or ''Standing In The Wings'' by The Kazu Project?
  14. Listened to a couple tracks off the new record, didn't do much for me. But the other two sound pretty cool thanks, I'll have to check those out
  15. Haha yeah never really been a fan, don't like Krokus either to tell you the truth Seriously, I'm the youngest one? I know there are a few ''older'' members here (sorry guys) but I figured there were some younger ones on here as well... Anyways, what are you currently listening to? I've been on a Harem Scarem trip lately (only their first 2 records so far not sure if I should try the newer ones) and still listen to the new White Widdow record just a great album!
  16. Hello everyone, Been an avid user of the heavy harmonies database for years now and occasionally discovering new gems on the forum here so thought I'd sign up and share my views on old & new music. I'm 26, live in Switzerland and been listening to ''rock'' music since I've been 11 or 12 (back then it was bands like Limp Bizkit, Korn, Linking Park but they were my introduction to guitar music). Then discovered Led Zeppelin at 14 and after hearing Guns n' Roses at age 15 that was it..... Became obsessed with ''hair'' bands of the 80s and been living in the hard n heavy sections of local second hand record shops since then :-) Got acquainted with Ratt, Dokken, Winger, Tesla, W.A.S.P. all the good stuff and classics also some more ''obscure'' or lesser known bands . After trying Def Leppard a couple times and not liking it (not heavy enough and didn't like the voice back then) it ''clicked'' at one point and I started listening to Def Leppard which sort of paved the way for more AOR and melodic rock styled artists That's what I've been listening to mostly for the past 4 or 5 years along with the occasional new band which attracts my attention. Also stuff most people would categorize as ''pop'' for example 80s and early 90s outputs from Michael Bolton or Cher, as long as it's got a guitar solo I can dig it ;-) Looking forward to taking part in discussions and discovering more cool music here
