  1. Hard to say listening to a radio broadcast through computer speakers. Sounded okay and guess I didn't notice it sounding terrible.
  2. I heard another new song last night...."When The Lights Go Down". Another big thumbs up from me. Both tunes I've heard have sort of been mid-tempo type stuff though so will be interesting to hear how some more up tempo stuff sounds.
  3. Yeah, agree on the radio thing....pretty surprising to hear a band like them on radio at this point under any circumstances. I think they had some long relationship with the DJ from the sounds of it. New tune sounded like Heaven's Edge to me with maybe a current flavor to it in a Defiants sort of way. I think you're right on that Some Other Place. I feel like it was mostly just demos and leftovers from what I remember and wasn't really "new" music. I'd think it would make some sense to revisit that album at some point and maybe re-record and update the production on those songs. Either way, I kind of have fingers crossed for this new album and hoping it's good and that it doesn't turn out to be like Roxy's Blue's comeback album or something lol. I got the chance to chat with Mark Evans a bit when I was on the 2020 Monsters of Rock Cruise and he really was a super-nice guy. I asked him then if we could ever expect a new album from Heaven's Edge and he said they were talking about it, had some songs written and were hoping to make it happen. So it's nice to see it coming to fruition. I think the station that played the song last night might be playing another tonight between 8 and 9 eastern so might try to catch it.
  4. Heard a new Heaven's Edge song called What Could've Been on a Philly radio station tonight. I think they played another song too called Had Enough which was mentioned above but I missed that one. It's a mid-tempo type song. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from these guys but hearing this song has my interest peaked as it sounded very good to me. I think the new album is out in May so I'd expect an official single dropping soon. Had Enough will probably be the first single I'd guess.
  5. I'm with you here. I feel like the majority of the time that covers are just attempts at publicity grabs...especially if you're doing a very well known song. I think in general, the covers I've enjoyed most over the years are covers of songs I wasn't familiar with in the first place. In those cases, I'm good with covers. Or covers can be fun in live settings when your just trying to appeal to the crowd and might not have a big catalog of music. But to me, recording covers of very well known songs just isn't that interesting. I'll usually listen once but never go back to them.
  6. Nice cover but would be way more interesting to me to see them doing some original material together.
  7. Had never paid any attention to this band in the past but gave this album a try after seeing it on some year end lists. Actually, I think I remember hearing the song Down By The River on their last release and thinking it was decent but never really heard anything else by them. Anyways, not too bad of an album. They remind me a bit of Collateral. The definitely have a little bit of southern country-rock flavor to them but they've got a good, catchy sound. Think I'm going to spend some time listening to their back catalog as there's enough I'm digging on this release to check them out a bit more.
  8. Agree on that Halestorm album. The songs are just kinda blah and Lizzy does spend too much time screaming. Lizzy is phenomenal and uber talented. It's a shame they can't come up with some better, catchier tunes while still taking advantage of her vocal talents. All they really need to do IMO is get back to the blueprint of those first couple albums.
  9. Def Leppard. Kinda hard...Trying to be mostly realistic I guess. I mean, I'd love to hear a song like Lady Strange but that's just never happening. Anyways, this feels like a set that could reasonably happen and it would be cool with Stagefright opening while also getting Gods of War and Wasted in the set among all the other songs they generally always play. Stagefright Let It Go Animal Take What You Want Foolin' Armageddon It Love Bites Wasted Gods of War Bringin' on The Heartbreak Rocket Hysteria Rock of Ages Pour Some Sugar On Me Photograph
  10. I'm with you here....Shiraz Lane easy. I really expected that album to challenge for my top album of the year being that I loved Carnival Days and Vibration as well as the other songs they put out as singles. But I found basically nothing else I liked about the album after hearing it. It's hard to say why....Just doesn't have the fun, catchy tunes they had on those previous releases. As for H.E.A.T, I guess it's all about expectations. I was expecting very little as I was not very fond of the first couple albums with Kenny and Erik was the reason I got into the band. But I was actually pleasantly surprised with the album and it's gotten a lot of play for me. I don't like it as much as the Erik albums but still like it plenty.
  11. This might be tops on my list for this. I vividly remember the first time I listened to Slang. I unwrapped that CD and chucked it in my car and couldn't wait to hear a new album from my favorite band. I made it all the way through and put my window down and was darn close to tossing it out my car window. I resisted the urge though. I think I might've given it one or two more plays before parking it on my CD shelf and being irritated that I had waited 4 years for that drivel. Somewhere along the line though my feelings changed on it and I dig it now.
  12. Had not heard of these guys either....I'm digging that tune shared above. I can hear the Danger Danger reference in that song....not sure about the Tesla comparison unless that comes out somewhere else. Either way, I'm gonna check this one out.
  13. You're probably right it's a bad comparison but I guess I just think of the Defiants as more of a project than a band for whatever reason. I suppose it's because they rarely play live although I know they have played a few times.
  14. Agree! There was a time back 5 or 6 years ago when I'd get into these project type things....Defiants, Nordic Union, etc. And I'm sure I'll still enjoy new Defiants music when it drops. But I'm definitely saturated on these things and I'm basically to the point where I'm paying very little attention to them. I'd rather invest my time into "real" bands that I might actually get the chance to see live someday. Like you say, I'll still sometimes check out these things and maybe I toss a song into my playlist here or there. But odds I actually purchase an album from one of these new projects is very low.
  15. Just clicked on this to check it out as I had never heard of this band....Not too bad! Kinda reminds me musically of early Tora Tora meets AC/DC but I hear some Axel Rose too in those vocals. Album isn't too bad. I feel like it falls off a bit in the second half but there's a few good tunes and definitely some potential here.
  16. Update for 2022 as of now for me. I doubt this changes but will edit if it does. 1. Skid Row - Gangs All Here 2. Kissin Dynamite - Not The End of The Road 3. Def Leppard - Diamond Star Halos 4. Crashdiet - Automaton 5. H.E.A.T - Force Majure Honorable mention: Degreed, Nickelback, Thundermother, Black Swan, New Roses, Ronnie Atkins. Most disappointing for me was easily Shiraz Lane....I expected to love that album with how much I've enjoyed all their other recent output but that album was like a kick in the nuts....Just did not like it at all. I think I've got one song from it that made my main playlist (Scream). For me they just lost the catchy melodies they had on Carnival Days and Vibration. Overall, Skid Row gets the nod for me as I just really dig it. I think in reality Kissin' Dynamite's album probably has better songs but the Skid Row album just excited me more and they're a band I actually get the chance to see live and experience the new songs which just adds a little to it. That KD album is fantastic though and probably my most played album this year being it came out earlier in the year. Def Leppard get my third spot. Yeah, I know many hate it but I dug it and for me it blows away their past couple albums. They at least got back to making some fun, catchy tunes and that's really all I want from them at this stage as I know they're never doing Pyromania again. Crashdiet was my surprise of the year. I've never been into these guys before but this album really grabbed me. I also spent a lot of time listening to Rust and found myself really enjoying that album also. I've been trying to get into some of their earlier albums but have to say they aren't really grabbing me. As for H.E.A.T, I'm a little surprised I liked this album as much as I did as I never cared much for their first 2 albums with Kenny. But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with it. I think the only tracks on it I don't care much for are One Of Us, Paramount and Demon Eyes. I dig the rest though and for me this album is much better than those first 2 albums. There's really not much separating my next five of Degreed, Nickelback, Thundermother, Black Swan and Ronnie Atkins. Basically have a handful of tracks on each one of them that I enjoy and all are pretty good listens.
  17. Have never listened to Disturbed but have been checking out Nickelback as discussed in their thread. I suspect it'll probably be a polarizing album which is usually the case with Nickelback. I feel like they're a little like Def Leppard in terms of the wide range of opinions you often get on their stuff. If somebody wants a balls out, rocking album....This won't be it. But I'm liking it for a change of pace and something different than my normal listening.
  18. I don't know if we're too far apart here as I have to say the album seems to be growing on me. It does have some good sonics and melodic, catchy tunes. Yeah, you're probably right in that the second half is a bit more varied than they typically do. The songs do sound good and all....Just wish the tempo would've picked up a bit more somewhere in that second half with another San Quentin type banger. I'm with you on Standing in the Dark...cool tune and probably my favorite of the second half. I think the songs doing the least for me are probably Tidal Wave and Just One More as nothing much seems to be grabbing me with those so far. High Time is a strange one for me. I feel like should hate it with it's Country-ish vibe and that was my initial reaction but it's weirdly grown on me. Steel Still Rusts is another I didn't care for at first but has grown on me as I've taken in the lyrics. It probably is the most interesting Nickelback album since Dark Horse which is the last NIckelback album I found myself spending much time with.
  19. I really dig the song itself, the music and vibe of the tune but I'm just struggling with Strandell's vocals....not sure if it's the tone, accent or what. But something has just soured me on him. Basically the same problem I had with the debut.
  20. Have heard this album....I feel like it's pretty much what you'd expect from these guys. For me, the first half is pretty decent. I'm not sure I care all that much for "High" but San Quentin, Skinny Little Missy and Vegas Bomb are some catchy rock tunes that kind of remind me of Dark Horse album style tunes. And I'm good with Those Days as I dig the whole throwback vibe and lyrics. For me, the second half isn't as good as the first half as it gets pretty ballad & mid tempo heavy and it kind of saps the life out of the album. I'd have really liked to see a couple more banging rockers in the second half. Overall, it's okay though if you've liked these guys formula in the past. There's not doubt though they basically mostly keep doing the same types of songs over and over lol.
  21. Sounds pretty good but I'm not sure I'm overly excited about the song or this release. I liked their debut when it dropped but honestly I never have any desire to go back to it now and guess it just didn't age very well for me....not really sure why but I think I only have maybe 1 or 2 songs from it in my main playlist. Still will keep eyes on this though and probably give it a listen when it drops.
  22. Trixter is a big one for me. Always dug their stuff and they still seem capable of putting out good music based on the last couple albums. They'd also be a fun band to see touring around the US with bands like Warrant, Skid Row, Firehouse, etc and/or playing festivals. Wildside and Shotgun Messiah are a couple others I dug back in the day but the chances seem like zero of anything happening there and I'm not sure they could put out anything exciting even if it did happen.
  23. I still love to go. Although, I do have to say I'm starting to skip some shows I might've went to just because I've been saturated on certain bands and if they aren't bringing anything new to the table, there's no point in going. For example, Firehouse played about 30 minutes from me a couple months ago. I dig Firehouse but I've seen them plenty and they have no new music so it's basically the same show over and over. They still sound great and put on a good show, but I don't need to see it again. Warrant is another band that played near me recently and skipped that also. I've seen them plenty of times over the years and it's always the same thing. I still enjoy going though. I'll still try to hit some festivals or shows if the lineup intrigues me enough.
  24. Did the Monsters of Rock Cruise in 2020, which was my first one. I thought it was amazing and don't think i can ever do a "normal" cruise again lol. It was just awesome having concerts from about noon until past midnight every day. The draw for me though was really to see some of the Euro bands that are next to impossible to see here in the USA otherwise due to our annoying visa laws. Apparently they're able to avoid the rules by playing on the cruise since it's not US soil. It was pretty cool being able to brush elbows with many of the bands hanging throughout the ship and at least from my experience, everybody I approached was very welcoming and happy to chat or snap a photo or whatever. It's pretty cool to know you're around so many people with like minded tastes. It's expensive but definitely worth doing at least once. I'm hopeful to do another at some point.
