  1. Will be hunting for this one later tonight. Loved the debut, well about as much as you can love anything released on a major label these days. Thanks for the post.
  2. Who was that blonde chick guitarist seen on the footage of his last rehearsal. She's hot and an Aussie apparently - anyone?
  3. OK, post your whatever happened to's here and we'll see if anyone can find out what they are doing. My first one is Jan Barnett - used to sing in the German metal band Rough Silk. Once he left the band's releases very quickly turned to shit. Any news on him? Last I heard he was doign ads and jungles or something. Another one is Harry K Cody, the guitar slinger from Shotgun Messiah. One of my faves of all time - what happened to him after Violent New Breed?
  4. One thing has to be said, they play great gigs - they always draw a crowd and they know how to milk any celebrity that gets anywhere near them. They have created their own buzz and managed to get a label deal because of it. I think they have a better chance of bringing a larger audience to this style of music then all the serious bands out there whom can only be found on little labels that you have to search out, no radio play or videos. They have gotten noticed, sure it took them some time but these days you only have 15mins to cash in. Agreed Geoff - they don't want to sing clever lyrics and they know what they are targeting - can't help thinking not so drunk Chris Holmes in the late 80s Still with a song like Hard to Swallow by Big Cock you can play it with the in-laws around and they have no idea it's about swallowing cum Cheers, John
  5. This got off track Obviously this CD has people buzzing and to be honest I think anything that draws attention to this type of music is great. Some other parody albums - some mentioned above - agreed, I love Tenacious D. If people haven't given these 2 CDs a chance you are missing out. First one is much better IMO but there is so much power and melody that simply cannot be denied on these CDs. Also, no one mentioned Big Cock who now have 3CDs out. My 2c on the lyrics debate. Personally I could care less about what they are singing about as long as the vocals sell the song, have melody etc. On the flipside I do get that these lyrics could be written by a 12 year old. There are some bands that do double entendre very well. Bon Scott used to write awesome lyrics and if you compare Community Property with Big Cock's Hard To Swallow there is no denying who is more clever. But at the end of the day - a good song is a good song!
  6. This will end being a poll but was wondering what was everyone's favourite parody band and album - will leave the parody definition open to discussion. Obvious ones to begin with: Steel Panther - Feel the Steel Spinal Tap - This Is Spinal Tap / Break Like The Wind / Back From The Dead The Darkness - Permission To Land / One Way To Hell ..... and Back The Black Sweden - Gold Skrapp Mettle - Sensitive Steel Panther for me, Skrapp a little overrated and the Black Sweden aint bad
  7. What material was recorded by Shotgun MEssiah that never saw the light of day? From what era?
  8. Yeah, I've checked out Fly 2 Freedom. It is great and in my opinion better than Arnel's version of those same tracks (from the special edition of the last Journey cd). Both are great singers but for me no one can touch Perry's performance of those songs.
  9. Defintely worth picking up. I have the CD with the long title and it gets a regular spin.
  10. My guess is that Paris will bed them before the year is out!
  11. Mass for me, grabbed the Retrospect re-issue. Great stuff

    Hi All

Hi All, Have been lurking here for years, not the forums but the site and though it time to join. I am a mid-30 something from Australia and a brand new kid, this means the music is down low these days. I got into music in the early 80s when my older brother played Maiden, Quiet Riot, AC/DC etc. I started buying my own stuff in 87 like Slippery, 1987, Permanent Vacation - all albums I still love today. Since then I got into all sorts of music from more mellow AOR through to speed/thrash metal. Never do Black, Death or anything like that - has to have melody and clean vocals. So I love a LOT of bands, way too many to mention (Savatage, Angra, White Lion, Whitesnake, Gottard, John Sykes, Sonata Arctica etc. etc.). I have spent the last year trying to find CDs of lots of my old vinyl and also replacing my favourite CDs with Jap versions. I am also a big game player, well used to be. Love Street Fighter, Pro Evo, Resident Evil and so on. I have been working in games as a Producer for the past 14 years - currently doing a stint with Codemasters. Can't wait for Brutal Legend!!!! Am glad to be finally here and hope to make a few buddy's along the way. Cheers, Dahun
  13. I have no idea if there is such a thing but I love some really sad AOR albums like the following: Damian Wilson - Disciple (and Cosmos) Zakk Wylde - Between Heaven & Hell Kurt Nilsen - All 3 albums (not the country album). Joshua Kadison - Both albums (ok, have some cheery stuff) Mark Spiro - Care of My Soul If anyone that has some recommendations of CDs with the same vibe as those above I would love to hear about them. Cheers.
  14. This has been a gem in my collection for along time and something I can pull out when the missus is around. Anyone else have this? The ballads are amazing and the whole album is top notch. Is anyone else really into this CD and if so can you recommend anything else by Kevin? Thanks.
  15. Was wondering f anyone picked up the Johnny Crash - Unfinished Busines album. If so, is it any good and how does it stack up against their debut album? Thanks.
  16. Did Ray Gillen record anythign for the first Blue Murder CD?
  17. Reading through the Hysteria re-release booklet Leppard were recording that album initially with JIM STEINMAN!
  18. Thanks for the feedback guys. Cheers.
  19. Was wondering what people preferred. I love digipaks but then again I take care of CDs and they stay in a protective plastic cover. Was curios because I picked up the Lep Hysteria/Pyromania and Snake Slide/87 anniversary re-issues recently and am very impressed. Hmm maybe one for the poll?
