  1. Rock Candy will indeed be re-issuing this album within the next few months. The RC release should feature bonus tracks. The liner notes have been written with the greatly appreciated help and blessing of Mark Evans, Reggie Wu and Dave Rath!
  2. Nick, I picked up the 'Vices' re-issue a couple of years ago when it first turned up. I thought it was a boot, but it's good quality. It fills a gap in the collection, put it that way.
  3. The Tramp/Steffensen 'Brothers For Life' demos are part of the Tramp box set. They were recorded after White Lion split and prior to Freak Of Nature being formed.
  4. By 1980 Mabel were living in Spain and, looking to go in a heavier direction, the band changed to the Studs moniker and released the self-titled album on Hispavox. After a life changing encounter with his hero David Lee Roth on a Van Halen visit to Madrid Tramp and band moved to New York City, changing the name to Lion in the process. It was here they were joined by Oliver Steffenson and recorded a number of demo tracks, including a formative version of 'El Salvador'. Incidentally, the Studs album features a song called 'Rock You Tonight' that was incorporated into the early White Lion live sets that they were still playing in 1985. Lion - or Danish Lions as the band were also known as - recorded a different selection of songs to Studs rather than the demo just being solely re-recordings of the Studs album. There are a few songs that were played by both with 'Take Me Home' being re-recorded from the album and a couple of other Studs tracks that were not featured on the album ('When Rock N Roll Was Born' and 'Bring It On Home') being re-cut by Lion. I have the Studs album and the Tramp box set. The latter is absolutely fascinating in terms of the evolution of White Lion. Early White Lion demos include re-recordings of the aforementioned 'Rock You Tonight' and Lion/Danish Lions songs 'Two People', 'Deep In Love With You' and 'How Does It Feel'. The first three were on the first White Lion demo featuring Tramp, Vito Bratta, bassist Bruce Terkildsen and drummer Mike Arbeny (aka Michael Clayton, later of Tyketto). Hopefully Tramp may raid the Mabel archive for a similar box set in the future, especially in light of the recent reunion for Danish TV!
  5. This album has been announced as a forthcoming re-issue on the Rock Candy label. It'll be released with the usual lavish packaging afforded to all RC releases and has the full involvement of Mark Evans, Reggie Wu and Dave Rath.
  6. I'll definitely be going the Rock Candy route with the Witness and off load my original copy, as they are way ahead the best re-issue label around. Jez, Thanks for your support. It'll be a great release!
  7. Hi Faust, The news is that although there will be a re-issue of the Witness CD through Yesterrock next month, as indicated in my post above Rock Candy have been working on a Remastered And Reloaded Collector's Edition for the past few months. The RC version features full input from both Debbie Davis and Joey Huffman. Indeed, it was through my contact with the duo that got them talking about a reunion of the band (that would possibly include Damon Johnson, who appeared on the album cover and toured with Witness, but joined too late to actually play on it). So, believe me, the Rock Candy version is something well worth looking forward to. Once I have a release date confirmed I'll let everybody know. By the way, there's some other really cool stuff coming out through RC later in the year.
  8. PLease see thread titled 'Witness S/T' for further information about a re-issue of this album on Rock Candy.
  9. JUst a quick note on the Witness re-issue through Rock Candy. It's somewhat intriguing that a reissue of this album has just been announced through another label. It further proves that dealing with major record labels on licensing can be an interesting experience. I can reveal that, earlier this year, Derek Oliver invited me to work on the preparation of a long awaited - officially licensed from Sony BMG - re-issue of the Witness album for release through Rock Candy later this year. The CD will, of course, be to the same excellent standard as music fans have come to expect from the label. This includes remastering, 4000 word essay and archive material supplied by band members (with the distinct possibility of bonus material). Yup, the RC release has full involvement from keyboard player Joey Huffman and vocalist Debbie Davis, both co-founders of the band, and both have been extremely helpful in putting this project together. It has been especially cool to get back in touch with Debbie for a highly informative catch up chat to the original interview I conducted with her for 'Kerrang!' when the album was first released in 1988. What's more, talking to them both about the album has encouraged them to think very seriously about a possible reunion for a gigs! Stay tuned for further details on the Rock Candy website and through all AOR friendly websites on the release date for this Remastered And Reloaded Rock Candy edition!!!
  10. The albums featured are very much Heavy Harmonies style records. I would also add the 'I Paralyze' album she cut for CBS prior to the Geffen deal that had some worthy pop rock and AOR moments but, more importantly, the great hard rock album she recorded with then boyfriend Les Dudek under the band name of Black Rose (Casablanca, 1980). Actually, the previous brace of Casablanca albums had a few rockier moments too, but the Black Rose album is a legendary piece of vinyl. Guitars from Les Dudek and Ron 'Rocket' Richotte (later with David Lee Roth, Stan Bush and Steppenwolf) Bass by Trey Thompson (later of Channel) Drums by Gary Ferguson (later Channel and Gary Moore).
  11. Joyce 'Baby Jean' Kennedy of Mother's Finest is the Queen of all Rock Queens. What a voice!
  12. Delroy Facey is the new Gavin Gordon/Devon White/Tony Agana/Hector Sam/Andy White (delete as applicable). Notts were ahead twice v Shrewsbury yesterday but poor defending by the ever useless Paul Mayo and Jason Beardsley led to the Shrews equalizers, the sickener coming two minutes from time. Facey was pretty ineffective up front again and missed a sitter at the death. What irked me was that Ian McParland failed to make a single substitution to liven things up at the front. We're in for another struggle....
  13. 'Run Out Of Town' was loosely based on the story of Sinsel being banned from playing a number of venues in the North West. Sinsel was indeed the only member of the band that had recorded the album who appeared on the finished album cover, which meant that the likes of Scott Earl, Kjartan Kristoffersen and Ken Mary got credit for work they didn't do. Gary Thompson (drums), Rick Pierce (guitar) and Evan Sheeley (bass) had all joined Q5 by the time 'In Your Face' was released. Adam Brenner had, of course, gone solo. I believe he had actually recorded most of the guitar work. Pierce may have only made a fleeting cameo. I'll have to check. That material was recorded and remixed so many times.....
  14. I don't think he's ever made the perfect record. And he certainly hasn't made one with any real impact since 'New Jersey', but I like the guy. He's smarter than he's often given credit for.
  15. Indeed. Should be a good game. The Pies are playing like a team this year and not a bunch of useless pricks who had no interest in playing for the club to match with having little talent. They were awesome against Doncaster in the Carling Cup the other week. The only problem is that they still don't make the most of their chances in front of the net (as the Darlington game proved). But the defence is far more robust than last season, with the exception of the left back, Paul Mayo, who is the weakest link. I like the fact that those posting here are mainly League supporters and not Premiership glory hunters :0) "I had a wheelbarrow..the wheel fell off"
