Rock Sugar

Here is the latest Loud & Clear side project called Rock Sugar. A blatant rip off of Steel Panther (read the band Rock Sugar's story) and the concept of The Black Sweden, the band that combined one metal song with an Abba track, from a few years back. I love both Steel Panther and The Black Sweden, this sounds good but I have a feeling it will get old real quick.

I love Loud & Clear, Disc-connected is one of my top 10 discs of the past decade. I'd rather get somehting new from them instead. The talent of Jess Harnell and the L&C boys sure proves to me they should be making thier own music.

That said, this is alot of fun.

They did OK combining songs like that. Hopefully there is no lame comedy act between songs at lives.

'A blatant rip off of Steel Panther...' That is a very oxymoronic part of that statement.

I'm not talking about the music, it's storyline concept of a band on the verge of success goes missing for 20 odd years and comes back to life to save the hair metal hungry world, THAT'S the blatant rip off.

Hmm, really don't like that at all. Of course it all sounds good, but its just a really gay idea if you ask me.

I agree, Dave, 'Disconnected' is one of the best albums to be released in recent years and L&C are an excellent band. Why they'd put time and effort into pointless shit like this instead of making their own magic actually pisses me off. Lazy cop-out if you ask me.

I'd probably pick this up for under $5 to put on when I'm bored and disinterested in what's on the stereo, but $16.99? Not a f*cking chance.

I got a kick out of this CD... But then again, I loved the Black Sweden CD as well.

My thoughts on this are a reflection of a comment I made in the Edge of Forever thread. My two favourite songs on here are actually the Paula Abdul cover and the Madonna cover. As I said in the other thread, covers of the already good songs is just a pointless waste of time. I don't care if they mix two in one, it's still almost a direct cover of already great songs. I prefer hearing non-rock songs rocked up... that's worthwhile.

As I said above, I listened to this just fine, but to me this is just a bad concept. Way too good a band to be wasting their time with this shit.

Strictly speaking tho, Fozzy did that story first.

This one was pretty decent too. I don't know the Eurythmics song but it sounded kind of cool.

I finally got my copy of this in the mail yesterday. To me this was worth every penny. I had a blast listening to it. The song choices were spot on and who would've thought you could actually make a Madonna song sound cool. Sure, we all miss Loud & Clear, but dang, Jesse Harnell's vocals were excellent here. I thought he performed better vocally here than he did on "Disc-connected". The concept actually worked here and kudos to the boys for giving this a shot and apparently doing pretty well sale-wise from the e-mail they sent me. Bottom line, this blows away 7th Heaven who tried the same type of thing on their pop and rock medleys. So yes, like Rock Sugar says, pop rocks!

Yeah, don't worry, Stefan. Just be grateful it's hard to get so you don't have to be as disappointed as most fans of good music were. ;)

the musicianship and such are fine.

Certainly is. Sounds even better when they're just playing Loud N' Clear songs. ;)

This would get me excited....if Frontiers signed Loud N' Clear. 15 years later and Disc-connected still sounds awesome.

I don't mind it but at the same time I don't listen to it often.... which is the same for 98% of my collection coz...well there's just too much good stuff to listen to.

I think I have a couple of extra copies Stefan. Let me know if you want to organise a trade or something!
