British Curse Words

I've been watching a lot of BBC America--shows like 'Green Wing,' 'At Home with Braithwaites,' 'Mile High.' Can my UK friends provide me with definitions for the terms below. Some I have an idea about based on the context in which they were used.

wanker, wankpot - one who plays with himself

sod - poop

sod off - like 'piss off' but to do so in the poopy sense

bullocks - ?

git - ?

quid - same as a British pound?

A sod is actually a piece of rolled up lawn turf, but it's also short for sodomiser!!

A bullock is a male cow, think you mean bollocks.

A git is someone being a little bit rotten.

And yes a quid is a pound.

You'd say somebody is a right wanker if you don't like them. Often also put together as Fookin wanker. He's a fookin wanker - He really is a complete idiot.

So what does "bollocks" mean? I know there was a Nirvana bootleg called Nevermind the Bollocks, so I was assuming it was a place where they performed. And how about "bugger" as in "bugger off"? I have same vague recollection of bugger being synonymous with sodomite.

Here's a word I'm 100% sure of. "Sheist" = :poop: in German

Alright, this is really helpful. My wife (from the Philippines) and I have been watching a lot more British movies and movies with british actors and she's always asking me what the hell there saying (usually the curse words). No I can tell her. :P

There seem to be a few experts on the boards so feel free to try some more.

My favourite mix up is the difference between US/UK for the word Fanny.

I just came across this helpful link. Apparently "cobblers" is another word for "bollocks." I prefer "Bristols" me self.  :P

Bristols is the slang for breasts, as is boobs, knockers, shirt potatoes & jubblies. :P

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM....Jubblies :tits:

I agree! Yum.

Me mate Spooner calls 'em Billies! I'm too polite for any of that nonsense though! <_<

I sometimes call them an entree, but that's just when I'm being rude.

It's nice to have confirmation that I've been using it in the right context.

    • Not much information on the video's page, other than it appears to be an AI creation. Once it gets into the verse and especially the chorus, it's actually not too bad IMO.
    • While I appreciate your interest in contributing to the site, most of the artists and albums you are submitting are either REALLLLLLY stretching the boundaries, or as in the case of this band, completely off the mark. No alternagrunge. No punk. No death metal/power metal (although those can be submitted to Brutal Metal). You can always start a thread asking about a particular artist before blindly submitting it for inclusion. Thanks! -Dan
