Where in the World does Retrospect Records come from?

Recommended Posts

Vegascd's is selling a wack load of super rare titles like Alyse, Friction, Liquid Mirror, Razor Baby and Toy Roz They are all re-issued in 2005 on a label called Retrospect Records does this record label have a website where we directly purchase the cd's and not have to bid, just buy directly from the label?

First time I ever hear about this label. Will they be re-issuing the Surrender cd or some other record label?

Funny that no other seller has jumped the gun and try to sell the Friction cd, it can get up to 100$, nice!

Spend some time reading here on the board. It's abundantly clear what Retrospect Records is.

The same seller is now selling porn on Ebay, wonder if they are 2005 re-issues of good ol' 70's porn. I hope Ron Jeremy gets his cut from these.

  • 3 weeks later...

Those Retrospect Records don't seem to be doing so well. I guess buyers have decided to wise up. I hope there aren't too many printed, because only a handful have sold so far. :crying:

All good things.....

If you go to www.retrospectrecords.com, you will find a great deal on his CDs. Just $49.99 for the Friction CD.

Wow! Finally a reissue label that puts music ahead of greed, pricing CDs within the reach of everyday consumers. Wait till Wounded Bird sees these deals!!!

They won't be able to compete!!

:wtf:

Here's what Sam left for me today, in response to my post:

"HAHA - You better talk to your butt buddy PJ about high pricing - I learned it from him. Friction is being sold AT MARKET VALUE just like the others....and all are doing quite well thanks.....Let's see $550 for an original or $50 for a re-issue. Hmmmm.....at least the band gets a nice cut."

In this typically assinine piece of Sam's twisted logic, he admits to high pricing and then goes on to claim Friction is being sold at MARKET value. Well, Sam... market value for a re-issue is around $14-18, not $50. Surrender's being sold at Metal Mayhem for $18, AOR Heaven for $20. THAT's market value.

Some fools never learn! :lame:

This so called label is killing the love of finding or simply hoping of finding rare treasures. It is re-releasing cd after cd, go check on Ebay. Pretty soon Winger will become more sought after and harder to find than the Rock Boulevard's of the world. Certain albums should be re-released, just not everything one can lay one's hands on.

Didn't you know? Sam has legal reissue rights to every single album that has ever been released... looking forward to those Peter, Paul, & Mary reissues coming out on Retrospect. Not real happy about the $67.83 MSRP though... ;)

Do you have the right info Dan? I was pretty positive it was Alvin, Simon and Theodore. Not Peter Paul and Mary ;)

The sad part about the rantings of those that are so vehemently opposed to Retrospect is that actual bands could be..and probably are...affected by all of the negative press. And that is something that I thought you guys were so against.

Like I've said before, I don't agree with everything Sam is doing with Retrospect, but there is no denying that he has many legitimate bands on his roster and with all of the negativeness that comes form someone like Koogles, etc. it affects the bands just as much as it affects Sam. The thing that most don't know is that Koogles apparently fires off random emails to Sam antagonizing him....totally unprovoked...probably in hopes of getting Sam to 'go off' so that he can post it in a public forum somewhere to help Koogles cause...or to embarrass Sam further because he knows how Sam will respond. People don't see the whole picture sometimes.....

About the bands on Retrospect's roster and their legitmacy:

Heartless is easily contacted. So if this reissue was not legit, we'd probably hear from them.

Alyze has been contacted by people and they've confirmed their reissue and release of their EP is legit.

The Bad Angels disc has 2 bonus tracks added to this release. If someone were just booting it...why would they go through the trouble of adding those two songs??

Red China Blue has a website and can be contacted easily. Ask them if their release is legit. I've already check it out....and it is.....

And the list goes on. These people are not so difficult to find. And a majority of them are psyched to have their material put out there....again. Is Retrospect going to be required to provide proof of EVERY release it puts out before people will bellieve it?? Did people get this bent about Metal Mayhem...or Perris whent they did this??? Did they have to provide proof to anyone??? Seems Retrospect is being held to a higher standard.....

Maybe Sam will have to have some of these people provide personal posts...and/or emails to this website...or some public forum to verify what's going on at Retrospect. Maybe phone calls.....something.....because it is so rediculous to see the constant allegations without any proof whatsoever....

The bottom line is...that You all are allowed have your own opinions on these releases. But I personally think you are depriving yourself of some kickass music. But that's your decisions to make...............

Keep Rockin'

JLPRocks... for someone who is trying to give the "whole picture", you're failing miserably as usual.

I have never taken random potshots at Sam... quite the opposite. On any given day, I open my inbox to see Sam responding quite negatively and defensively about something that I have posted on HH. In true Sam fashion, his logic is sketchy and his obscenities fit nicely into my trash folder. And childish ignorance is always an integral part of any Vegas verbal rampage.

He likes to not only take random shots at me, but PJ as well, often in the space of a single, rambling paragraph. Now you want to talk about sputtering unprovoked attacks for no reason... ask your loverboy Sammy about his cheap shots at everything from PJ's car to his CD prices.

And this is in an email sent to me!!

JLP- maybe you should get to know this slimebag friend of yours first before defending his actions and character. You, like the RIAA, the musicians on the CDs he "reissues", and the rest of the world in general, only knows a fraction of what Sam's up to. Sam's reputation for dishonesty has obviously seeped into your relationship with him as this latest allegation that I have time in my busy schedule to send him random shots of antagonism is absolutely ludicrous.

I have better things to do... and better company to keep.

But....you have time to post his emails in public forums. Now why is that, Koogs??

I know Sam's reputation....and I know how 'truthful'..or 'untruthful' he can be. I've known him for close to 10 years now. I'm not defending his character and I know he is no 'angel'.....

My point of my post....and it still stands, is that you continually posting negative things about Retrospect affects, not only Sam....but the bands themselves. And I thought that you were against that?

If you cared about the bands, then you would leave your 'personal' battles with Sam......as personal. That makes a bit of sense....now doesn't it???

Posting emails, etc. in a public forum where the individual in question cannot even respond to those postings is where on your list of things to do in your busy schedule??? What prompts you to do that??? What agenda...or reason would you have for doing so in a public forum??

I have to be honest, I miss some of those three-page posts filled with more four-letter words than a 70's Steve Martin skit.

I was on the edge of my seat with every "refresh" hoping someone had responded. Good times... damn good times! :headbanger:

Another thing I don't get is that the label and seller are stating that these cd's are rare, super rare, ultra rare. They even goes as far as to say the Friction is one of the rarest cd's on the planet, it is hyper rare. Since they can reproduce as many as they want, when they want and also buyers around the world can now simply go to the retrospect records site and buy directly, how can they be RARE!

When a cd is out of print and can only be found very, very rarely in some used cd shops or pawn shops in another city, province, state or even country, now that is RARE!

Those cd's were long lost gems, now they are cubic zirconia, very expensive cubic zirconia.

:agree:

I'm with ya on that, now THAT was entertainment.

In all seriousness (well okay, as serious as I ever get), I'd have to say that IMHO which means pretty much nothing <_< as long as Sam has gotten the okay from the bands, it's his business and he can run it however he wants. I agree that it would be nice to have silver CD's at a reasonable price, but if he wants to up his profit margins that's really up to him. Looks like people are buying the stuff so I guess the public has spoken from what I can see. I don't think you could really call it unethical unless the bands really don't know what's happening but that doesn't appear to be the case. Isn't this kinda what capitalism/free markets are all about. That being said, ain't no way I'm putting out $50 for a green cd-r, but it's obviously meeting a need somewhere or it wouldn't sell at all. It's not like he's doing it to make this stuff available to everyone who wants it out of the goodness of his heart and for all that is right in the world (although his website does kinda give you that impression... ;) ), he's doing it to make money. It is what it is IMHO.
