I don't know this lot mate, who would you compare them to ????

Wow, I don't really know. The music is top notch and the singer sometimes has a Tommy Paris or a Tom Keifer feel to him.

  • 3 years later...

I know Scarecrow is a christian band, and John Blaze recorded the entire album that became a Touch Of Madness by himself, and it fuckin rocks, my favorite song is Blood Runs Blind, I also like Till The Day I Die I Rock For You, very underated band.

Debut is good, not so much into the follow-up. And don't forget Arabia's '1001 night's either - more in line with the debut.

Many of the great songs of the debut was actually re-recorded for the Arabia album. I think the two bands had almost the same members as well.

I Think Touch Of Madness is fucking hard, it rocks way harder then the s\t, the s\t is way more melodic, but the songs on T.O.M. are dark and haunting, and way more professional sounding then anything off the s\t!

I know Scarecrow is a Christian band...

Where did you get that information from? Never heard of them being remotely Christian, and their lyrics certainly don't reflect any spirituality. Not saying you're wrong, just honestly curious to as to where you heard this little nugget.

Back in 1995, when Pavement Records was set to release Touch Of Madness, they released Beggars Bag as single to all of the rock radio stations that played Pavement Records material, the station I jocked at was one of them, they sent a press release with the single, it was an interview with Blaze, at this time I had never heard of them, but he mentioned the S\T disc, and that a lot of christian bands and fans, wont even consider Scarecrow a christian band, because they dont sugar coat their music with overlays of scriptures and other things christian bands do, all the lyrics are secular, but they are written from a christian stand point, about world events, and just life in general, they don't sway one way or another, but the band are extremely christian, but they don't promote themselves as a christian band,

Huh. I had no idea. Cool. Sounds like a classic case of "we're a band of Christians" rather than "we're a Christian band." Happens all the time now, but back then the line between Christian music and secular music was usually a little more clear-cut.

Thanks for the info. I learned something today. :)

And another thing, being I heard A Touch Of Madness before I heard the S\T disc, if you really take a look, I think there was a night and day difference between the content on the 2 discs, lyrically, that first disc is nothing like the second disc as far a the lyrical content, I think there is a lot more hint of christian based lyrics in A Touch Of Madness, I just thought about that after I listened to the 2 discs again, but it's never outright even on A Touch Of Madness!

    • No official release yet so don't know when exactly the album is supposed to come out but I'm assuming it's this year. I'm sure you're all brimming with excitement.
    • I posed him that exact question on his discord page as to what his future plans are.... He said he plans to relax for a bit, do his You Tube thing, keep writing new music and then will decide how to release that music.  He said as of now he's thinking he'll either do a solo thing or form his own band.  He didn't say this but I'd sort of envision a Daughtry type "band" where he kind of puts a band behind his name. So essentially, I think you're right on with his plans.  Ultimately, I think like you say, the control is a big part of it.  I think he wants to be able to operate on his own schedule to maintain his health and family obligations. It'll be interesting to see what sound the new material takes on.  It would seem logical to think it would be rock/melodic rock of some sort since that's really the type of music he's built his following with but he certainly has shown he can dabble anywhere from AOR to metal.
    • Glad I got to see them with Erik in front. All the best to him, definitely looking forward to his future outings when he is fully recovered. Would be cool to see him form his own band, where he could take control, and play around in different genres, from full on metal, to soothing AOR, the guy is so versatile.
    • Remedy - Crying Heart. One I've just seen thanks to the Iridium channel.  From the upcoming album. It's a Killer.
    • Let's not forget Benny Hill. What a Magnificent show that was.
    • Yeah... I dunno about that. It would be too cringe. Who knows? If I'm high enough, I might submit a video.
    • Yep great track and if you fancy being in the video for "The Feeling" nows your chance.
    • I'm proud to say that I had this single when I was a mere 8 years old. KISS were big down here then. Norman Gunston is Iconic for Aussies of my vintage.  The face ln the bottom left says it all. Hilarious.
    • All in all, this is a great story. Erik played a brilliant, well received, albeit short cameo with one of our favourite bands.  It was a win, win, win. A win for us, a win for Skid Row (the album certainly put them back on the map) and a win for Erik, adding this to his already impressive resume. The fact that it was so amicable with both parties is also great to see.
    • I really like this album - not every song on it but there are some surprisingly catchy melodies all over. Personally I think the singer adds great energy to the mix. It reminds me of the earlier Bai Bang ("closer to you")
