So which of the major indy labels do you think is doing the best job? Which one do you buy the most from?

My nod goes towards MTM/MTM CLassix, although every now and then Escape reissues some absolute monsters.

At one point I loved the stuff coming out on Frontiers, but I think they've diluted their talent pool too much; they're not as consistent as they used to be.

Perris have cool bands but the production always seem to suck!

Why is this?

As for Z, I like the fact they are signing bands that didn't quite get the break originally...ie Law & Order, Gypsy Rose, McQueen Street..etc.

Any news on the new Gypsy Rose album, has anyone got it yet?

For me it's Z Records by a hair over Kivel. Z Records reputation may not be the best , but they're home to some of my favorite releases from recent years like Wild Horses, Damned Nation, Arabia, War & Peace, Seven Wishes, and are the new home of Snakeryder....

As for Kivel, I never realized how many releases I had from that label!

Wow! No More Johnny, TNA, AdrianGale, Damn Cheetah, Pyn Siren....some good stuff for sure.... :band:

I hear ya there Mike. Add to your list: Attraction, Radar, Baron, Rain, Shanghai, Stone Angel, Funny Money, and Tour De Force.

 Damn....the only Kivel releases I DON'T have are Smilek and Nine 24.....

My two favorites are Century Media/Nuclear Blast and Perris Records. Century Media is the best for most metal but for more hard rock/sleaze stuff Perris is doing pretty good but they def. need some help with the packaging. It'll be interesting to see what Joe Dolan does with Retrospect in the next few years. Metal Mayhem is decent too. :drink:

Inside Out for the Prog stuff.

Rock Candy for the Re-issue stuff.

I went with Z records just for the band Savannah alone. I love that band and sound. I am truly impressed with the John's bands on Kivel though. It keeps getting better and better. The Poley disk will be huge I hope. Also enjoy the other labels. I just hope that all of them keep the music we covet alive and kicking!!!

Steelhouse Lane, Stun Leer, Raine, Jaded Heart etc... need I say more?

MTM is my fave. Awesome bands, awesome product.

All the others have some great stuff to though, don't get me wrong. :) AOR Heaven, Frontiers, Kivel, Metal Mayhem, Point, Escape, Z... I like 'em all.

I have a couple of CDs from Perris in my collection, but most of the CDs I buy lately seem to be on either the Century Media, Nuclear Blast, or SPV/Steamhammer labels ... none of which are mentioned in this poll, so I guess I'll just move on :)

:agree: This is true...great bands...the WORST Production...HMM!!And Crap

Packaging....

I think it's probably cuz Perris Records is basically a shoestring operation. I thought Tom Mathers basically IS Perris and that he runs that label out of his house... for a one-man show, though, he's dug up and released some pretty good stuff that probably wouldn't have seen the light of day otherwise...
