What are your favorite Albums from each era of Van Halen?

This was a toss up in the DLR era section. Each album had a few great rockers that I loved, but I had to go with the first album, because it had the most. Albums after that, although having good tunes, started to have alot of filler as well.

The Van Hagar era was simple for me... 5150 B)

It wouldn't allow me to just vote for the Dave album and skip the Hagar era entirely (which is what I have done for the last twenty years), so I will just say that my favorite Dave era album is FAIR WARNING and that the band have been dead to me ever since DLR left. Sorry

I was never a Hagar fan BEFORE he joined Van Halen so when the news came that he was the new VH guy, I simply walked away.

I will never forget goin' to the Van Halen Monsters of Rock concert at Giants Stadium in 1988 and noticing a van in the parking lot with the words "HAGAR'S NOT METAL!" written on the side in white reflector tape. Summed my feelings up perfectly. :)

My friends and I stayed until the Scorpions were finished and then left before VH came on... and a LOT of other people did the same thing!

I got sucked in by the whole "I Can't Drive 55" thing... ... no, seriously, check my driving record... ;)

I dug that whole VOA album, the Dean guitars, the whole thing. But he totally changed the attitude of VH and took it in a direction I did not wish to go. Made it all commercial and happy and stuff... I like that darker, meaner "Fair Warning" style... I don't care if they were miserable at the time. Suck it up bitches! <_<

You and your friends missed a great show...seen this show in Akron and it was awesome.I am a Van Halen fan with DLR first but the Monsters Of Rock Show that year with Hagar was great.I guess the people in Ohio live for the music first not the lead singer so EVERYBODY stayed and had a great time.....I remember it well.

Ehhh, Metallica, Dokken and the Scorpions were more than enough for me (forget Kingdom Come, heh heh) without having to see Van Hagar too, thanks. I was basically there for Metallica anyway. Glad you liked it though!

  • 2 years later...

DLR 1984 it's the only one I have from the DLR era because he's the biggest waste of a heartbeat ever, no talent waste of space

Sammy Hagar 5150 one of the best albums of all time IMO, Sammy is more talented hands down.

I should preface my picks by stating I really can't stand this band. That said, if I'm forced--and by "forced" I mean at gunpoint--to listen to them, my "favorites"--and boy do I use that term loosely--are "1984" (DLR) and "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" (SH).

I /II & Fair Warning all tie for me in the Roth era.

5150 in the Hagar era as I`m not too keen on much else!

And that's the WORD! :headbanger:

Tough to pick a favourite record though....I'll go with '1984'!

DLR - 1984

Hagar - 5150

With "5150" being my favorite VH release.
