Sam has been caught out big-time

hey Peck, that doesn't mean i run or work for his company , i was just doing him a favor at the time. Have i done it since? No.

But if i choose to, then i will - he or Retrospect certainly have not offended ME in any way.

Why do you think the world should all think like Koogles and bow down to the ebay / record label / international CD sales police chief?

Well, I'd rather be on MY side of the law than on Sam's. It's YOU that gave me the title of police chief. But the real question is: can you afford to bail your brother out when the long arm of the law drags Sammy, kicking and screaming like a 6-year old child, off to a cold, dark jail to meet his 250-pound, tattoo-wearing cell mate named Bubba??!!

Its gonna suck for you when you finally wake up and realise that Sam's business continues to prosper. Apparently (and this is NOT officially coming from the "Retrospect camp" because i do not represent RR - remember?) his sales are increasing day by day. And i don't see crap happening on the "legal" front either. So it seems all attempts to bring him down are fruitless and pointless. :eviltongue::butt:

If you don't want to be associated with the "Retrospect camp", you might want to stop with the insider info. When you keep speaking of sales increasing & legal issues, it puts you spuare in the middle of that camp, whether you like it or not. Just my 2 cents.

Well said chocularok.... and recordjnky, we're not trying to bring him down. Sam's doing it to himself. With old-fashioned greed and lack of respect for artistic licence.

I said it before and I'll repeat it for any slow learners out there: it's not about wanting to see Sam fail... it's about trying to make sure people KNOW what they're getting for their money and not getting royally B.S.-ed through a smokescreen of vague language like import and reissue. It's also about making sure the bands are aware their work is being re-released and, in the end, getting compensated fairly. Add to that reasonable prices and legitimate silver pressings... is that too much to ask?

But, nope, everytime I bring these valid issues up, out come the childish insults from the RR cheap seats (and those quasi-Retrospect fence-sitters who are bold enough to defend Retrospect but too wishy washy to represent them in an official sense. To you I say- piss or get off the pot!!!)

And to you i say thats the pot calling the kettle black. Give it up , peck, you ain't gonna win - perhaps you have forgotten that Sam is my brother so of course i am gonna find out some info in passing - either way, i got my own thing going on so i am not really that interested in whats happening with RR. But it doesn't take a microscope and a fine tooth comb to see you and your elitist anti-RR camp's agenda. And its just plain ugly. :yikes:

If your not interested in what is happening at RR, and growth is happening and money is rolling in, why are you even bothering responding?

Well, Recordjunkie.  Why don't you go ask your brother why he ripped Sweet Teaze off and then get back to us??  He has gone very quite lately.

Dave

Yes i suppose i could do that. But why be your puppet? I don't care enough to know if he really did rip off Sweet Teaze. It has nothing to do with me - I have my own business to tend to. If he wants to respond to any allegations then why don't you email him about it? Perhaps he will answer....

Yeah, recordjnky... instead of just pulling another empty cliche out of the air like "pot calling the kettle black", how about posting and actually saying something meaningful or something we haven't heard before?

And you want to talk ugly....put yourself in the shoes of Matt from Sweet Teaze whose only souvenirs of sluggin' it out for years in dirty bars for a few nickels are a handful of memories, a few lingering fans and a CD full of songs you poured your heart and soul into... only watch these minor glories whored out before your very eyes by one man's greedy empire.

You and your brother are both musicians, right? With that, I expect some understanding of the how hard musicians have to work and the labors involved with writing and recording music. But if you've somehow forgotten, let me remind you.

Like Sam, I was and still am a rock keyboardist and used to spend many long nights with Cubase and Cakewalk working out sequences and arranging parts. Multiply this attention to detail and these hours of practice by 4 or 5 (as in 4 or 5 different band members). Then there's the recording process, as you're probably well aware, can be just as gruelling. Ignoring the rigors of making a CD for a moment... the financial demands can be just as overwhelming, especially for indie bands. Studio time can range from $40/hr (if you're lucky) to $80/hr+. Add to that CD manufacturing costs, marketing expenses (in the case of Sweet Teaze, the pre-internet, pre-My Space era meant a lot more pavement pounding) and the cost of touring (playing in crappy bars for next-to-nothing... now divide next-to-nothing among 4 or 5 members).

Lucky just to break even, right?

Well, put yourself in the shoes of Sweet Teaze. How would YOU feel if all your years of struggling to make it, all your hard hours of playing and recording, and all your sweat, blood, hopes and dreams turned up on eBay... completely behind your back, with the biggest kick in the teeth being that it's peddled in quantity by some slimy opportunist in Vegas who isn't going to pay you a dime for it.

Forget who your brother is for a moment.... how would YOU feel as a musician, Aaron?

:offtopic: You guys are worse than my students with ADD or ADHD. The added H is for hyper.

Awww, c'mon! This thread needed a litle levity, dontcha think?

-Dan

You're right, anything that has to do with Retrospect needs a little fun, here and there. But the ADHD thing may still hold true for some. :P

Very true, there are some deadset f*ckin' loonies on this site! I'm just glad I'm one of the sensible ones.

Geoff , i would not put that to a vote if i was you ;)

    • Man, I really miss places like this! I could spend hours in them just looking at all the stuff. You’re a lucky man to live near there.
    • New album out June 28. Not my style per se, but well executed IMO.
    • "Still in Love" and "Sweet Melody" by Lancia
    • I posted about this record store (well, CD store really... it has a fair amount of vinyl, but the focus is CDs) 2 years ago. I go there about once a year, and every single time I do I keep kicking myself to go there more often. Not only for the sheer enjoyment of being able to shop the music genres we love and view all these releases in hand, but because it's so damned overwhelming. There's never time to go through things at leisure, pulling out boxes under racks to rummage, because even flying through things and NOT exploring new artists, it's still 3-4 hours to go through the alphabet... let alone stopping and using their listening station (they'll let you listen to used/opened material, not still sealed merch). It's only an hour and a half drive for me each way, so there's really ZERO excuse for me not going over there more frequently. This time I remembered to take a bunch of pictures, pulling out releases from artists we enjoy just to show what they had in stock... a lot of material you'll never see at any mainstream store (even if there is any that carry CDs anymore). Sure, the prices are more expensive than what you'll pay at Amazon and other online stores, but they're not as bad as you would think, and there are bargains to be had amongst the used material when it comes to OOP discs. And to be fair, being able to view all this stuff in-hand is worth it IMO. (Although every now and then you'll see an OOP disc that is WAAAAAAAY overpriced, but at least they have the odd and unusual.) They have one of those old-school "buyer club" stamp cards, with 20 spaces. One stamp per disc purchased. Every other stamp you get a dollar off, and when you fill a card you get $16.99 off your purchase and then you get a new card. On your birthday, you get $1 off every CD and that's on top of the buyer club card discounts. First the pics from when I was going through the aisles, starting with some general pics. Every single artist has its own title card, so look at the variety and depth of the artists. Also, look at the overstock in boxes underneath all the racks! That's the shit I never have time to go through (except when there's a specific artist I'm focusing in on). You've got CDs in the racks, then ringing the entire room is a shelf of box sets and limited editions, then above that VHS tapes, and above that vintage audio equipment. Sections for DVDs and blu-rays (not just music, but movies as well, including a small section of 4K and 3D titles). There's a smaller upper room level that is nothing but vinyl. If you're going to go, plan at least a full day, not just a quick drive-by. They're open from 11AM - 7PM Eastern Time.     Expensive at $249.99, but how many places have a still-sealed copy of the Vanden Plas Epic Works box set???     And now the stuff I picked up this trip. Most is completist fodder. There are a few artists where I literally want an example of every single pressing, even if I already have other label/year/country versions... call me OCD.               I picked up this one for trade/resale even though I already have it, as it is the LOOOONG out of print original fan club edition.     Hmmm... didn't know there was a solo effort, and it seems to be thematically related to the Threshold album "Legend of the Shires".       More OCD completist fodder. I didn't know that Avalon Records (Japan) licensed releases for South Korea.         Live albums aren't normally my thing, but this appears to be way out of print, and for $10 why not?   A few OOP releases for my multichannel audio collection       I'll be posting more about these once I get my shit together, but I'm WAAAAAAAAAY fucking late to the game when it comes to the Jethro Tull 40th anniversary CD + DVD special editions. They only reason I knew about them at all is that I saw a blurb about the 40th anniversary edition of "Broadsword and the Beast", which is my alltime favorite JT album, the first one I ever heard, and I love the album cover... which led me down the rabbithole of all these anniversary editions and their multichannel mixes. Unfortunately a few of them are now OOP and insanely in the $150-300 range. I ordered all of the ones that were still in print (or that had been reprinted), but there were still 4 that I needed... and they had one of them.   And lastly, the most expensive purchase of the day, going back to previous box set discussions, this was one that wasn't on my radar at the time it came out. Based upon eBay listings, it's now a tough find... and they had one still sealed. No, it's not the Amazon exclusive that was signed by Biff Byford, but autographs aren't important enough for me to spend the $500-$1,000 that the signed version now brings. This one will do nicely at a fraction of the cost... a huge and hefty tome (literally).   So when all was said and done, a great (and expensive!) shopping day, but a place I wholeheartedly recommend visiting should you find yourself out here in flyover country. JL Records 380 Brown St West Lafayette, IN 47906 https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041894265953
    • What's this one mate? A guess at the previous riddle or a new one?
    • At the risk of sounding foolish once again... I don't get it.
    • Album out May 31 on Metalopolis Records. The last album was stellar.
    • Hey Now am I the winner again ??!
