These guys out of New York specialize in re-ssues. They've got some Kix, Loudness, Bulletboys; even Maynard Ferguson for Dan. Can anyone vouch for them?

Now that's what I call FUNNY label name :)

but now let's see... Who in their right state of mind would re-issue WINGER - In the Heart of the Young - the most popular $0.99 bargain bin find ever???

I smell something fishy

There is absolutely nothing fishy about Wounded bird records!

They have been operating for quite a few years now, specialising in reissuing out of print albums (not necessarily hard to get CDs,hence the Winger one).

For instance, they reissued Iron Age by Mothers Finest,an album that had never been on CD,and you can tell from the quality of it,that they have access to the official master tapes!

I'm sure you will also find albums released by them on this site!

You're right, Captn Howdy; they must be legit, as I am now finding their CDs available through Amazon.com and CDUniverse. Man, they've got a lot of powerhouse material: previously out- of-print stuff by the Outlaws, Marilyn Martin, Nicolette Larson. Of particular interest to me is the track "Nice Girls" by Eye to Eye. It was an oddball hit back in '82 and has never been available on CD.

I purchased Loudness - Thunder In The East on the Wounded Bird label and was very satisfied. They seem legit all the way around.

Yet again Stormspell puts his foot in his mouth. According to him EVERYTHING is fishy and EVERYONE is booting. You really need to get a life. There are about 6 or 7 LEGIT re-issuing companies in the world right now. Accept it and move on. The ebay police-thing isn't working for you. Are all Russians this 'fishy'?

...stormspell was just questioning the logic behind re-issuing a cd that's readily available in discount bins nation wide for a buck (& Winger isn't the only one). You know, it IS possible for a re-issue lable to be legit but dumbass at the same time. Get a life, indeed!

I first became aware of them when they released the Mothers Finest CD I already mentioned, but since then I have picked up a few bits & pieces from them.

I got the three Vandenberg albums,Rick Medlocke & Blackfoot & JLTs Rescue you, plus I wanna pick up the early Fiona albums & Rough Cutt etc.

Wounded bird doesnt seem to specialise in one particular genre,or reissue whole artists catalogues,I just think they grab what they can get or afford.

Obviously the JLT album was a great one as the original was Jap only and very pricey, and an album like Iron age was great as it was never on CD,but the stuff by the likes of Winger,Enuff Z'Nuff & Faster Pussycat etc,is prolly just to bolster their catalogue as it was prolly cheap to obtain the rights!

From what I remember, they encourage people to email them with requests for albums they should reissue!

Wounded Bird Records was formed in 1998 as a label that specializes in the reissue of albums from the 60's, 70's and early 80's on compact disc.

All of our releases are properly licensed from the owner of the original masters, in most cases the original record label and sometimes the artists themselves.

We strive to reproduce the original album cover artwork, converted to accommodate the CD size format.

Suggestions of albums you would like to see reissued on CD are always welcome, so feel free to send us an e-mail at manager@woundedbird.com

Haha dude,

I was just questioning the logic in re-releasing WINGER - the most popular bargain bin cd ever to be found. Especially the way they did it without any new bonuses or new artwork or whatever - very unwise investment in my opinion.

Anyway, seems I was wrong and I'm first to apologize to Wounded Bird if they are indeed legit label. More power to them! I'm glad there are still people who put money into PROPER re-releases :)

Yep, they already replied to my e-mail. I'm glad I've been wrong and they are cool business giving some 80es stuff proper re-issues :drink:

Definately Legit, Thought that was a known fact to all. Some of the Wounded Bird stuff has been really good - Streets, Virginia Wolf, Mothers Finest, Airrace, Joe Lynn Turner, Danny Joe Brown, Kim Mitchell, Axe especially as most of these are the first time on cd. OK, Packaging is minimal and not a bonus track in sight, but sound quality is generally pretty good throughout - Nice to have them avaliable. although more recently others have been patchy soundwise, More, Envy etc. Not a patch on The Rock Candy, Mtm Classix series, but at least they are avaliable which is better than nothing at all.

"proper" re-issues?  Ask some of the people over at melodicrock.com how they feel about Wounded Bird re-issues and then you can start throwing that word around.

Probably the same way some of us feel about certain "other" companies green reissues.

"Green" being what you need to afford just one. Lots of green. You can buy 3 or 4 Wounded Bird reissues for the price of a single reissue from some other vendors.

Hmmm... $40 for one CD, or $40 for 3 silver-pressed CDs?

Wounded Bird reissues are good stuff. Yes, they are "no frills" reissues, in the same vein that One Way Records reissues were (although the sound quality on the Wounded Bird material is much better), but Wounded Bird doesn't gouge for their releases either and the discs can be found through virtually any wholesale distribution channal as "mid-priced" discs.

Good stuff; I own quite a few.

As everyone can see my comment is solely based on ALL positive responses left here regarding Wounded Bird re-issues. If everyone here who left feedback and stated they are proper official silverback releases lied, then scowl at them, not me

BS i dont think you will see any more reissues from the badlands catalog..i heard somewhere that the koch reissues were pulled due to a conflict with the atlantic label and familys of some affected(infected) by ray gillens death....

Dan is right, by no means are their releases going to blow your mind, but at least they are getting the music out cheap.

However, I am wondering if Banshee-Race Against Time, or the Badlands albums will be reissued by them.

80s metal collector, why would melodic rock have a problem with Wounded Birds stuff?

just curious...
