Can you copy and post lists on the forum?

This one's been a question of mine since the new format and it's time I address it. When I copy and paste from a spreadsheet, it looks like this;

1    .    Ted Poley     -    Modern Art 2    .    Station     -    More Than The Moon 3    .    No Sleep for Lucy     -    Until the End 4    .    Nitrate     -    Real World 5    .    Don Vedda     -    Hell of a Night 6    .    Self Deception     -    Self Deception 7    .    Imperium     -    Beyond the stars 8    .    W.E.T.     -    Earthrage 9    .    Gioeli, Castronovo     -    Set the World on Fire 10    .    Sapphire Eyes     -    Breath Of Ages

But how do I get it to look like this (after a sit here for 48min pressing Enter before every number);

1    .    Ted Poley     -    Modern Art

2    .    Station     -    More Than The Moon

3    .    No Sleep for Lucy     -    Until the End

4    .    Nitrate     -    Real World

5    .    Don Vedda     -    Hell of a Night

6    .    Self Deception     -    Self Deception

7    .    Imperium     -    Beyond the stars

8    .    W.E.T.     -    Earthrage

9    .    Gioeli, Castronovo     -    Set the World on Fire

10    .    Sapphire Eyes     -    Breath Of Ages

Geoff,

What are you using for your spreadsheet? Excel, Google Docs, or something else?

Testing a copy and paste from Excel...

Enrolled Room Capacity Day Quota
57 120
52 120
90 300
88 300
33 150
29 150
75 210
73 210
103 230
102 230
106 128
111 128
97 220
95 220
87 135

Seems to retain the table structure at my end.

How do you do this?! I also use Excel.

If I hit Cmd V (on the Mac) a pop up message comes up to tell me that what I am trying to copy is too large.

So I opt for Shift/Cmd/V (paste and match style) where it pastes in that first way in my post.

How did you do your one? Do you use a PC? Is it somehow a Mac thing?

Ctrl+c, Ctrl+v on the PC, but Cmd+c, Cmd+v on the Mac should work the same. How large of a spreadsheet are you truing to copy and paste? There might be a byte limit on what the board will accept as a paste.

Try just copying and pasting the top 10 or 20 entries and see if that works. If it does, then you might have to copy and paste in batches.

Yeah, so when I try the Cmd+v option I get the message 'You are only allowed to upload 10.24kb. And yep, just trying to copy and paste that top 10 list (for the sake of this experiment). So barely any more data than you copy and pasted above. Let me try just the top 5 entries.

Okay, so that's how it looks when I just copy and paste the top 5, which is still far less than ideal. I am just hoping to have it look like you did above.

Stupid thing is, I think I somehow did it when I posted my "Best Of 2017" list last year, but I haven't been able to do it since and can't for the heck of me think how I might have done that?

Hmm... I can post much larger amounts than that, and I don't see anything in group settings that would limit you. The normal file upload limit is many multiples of 10K. Perhaps paste is handled different from file upload, but I can't find it.

What about doing a screenshot of the spreadsheet and uploading that as an image?

And how the hell is Ted Poley #1????

different tastes I guess.

None of the songs do much me. Ted's voice does not fit Degreeds music in my opinion.

I'm with you. It's not awful by any means, but as you said, Ted singing Degreed-type music just doesn't sound "right".

Yeah, I could probably do that I guess... would love for it just to post like it did in your first post, lol. ;) Any other technically inclined folk have any reason why it's not working for me? Everyone else can posts lists normally?

Just even looking at my list compared to yours, Dan, when I entered after each line - is it even odd for me to have those spaces between each line like I do, when yours is just posted as a straight list with no spaces between lines?

Just did another test - posting list in Word and then trying from there - identical results. Could this be some cookie related thing or something?

When you manually add hard returns, it turns each line into a "paragraph" which adds extra space below the line.(s).

I'm afraid I'm not any help with respect to the differences between Mac and PC and the usage of clipboard data on one vs. the other. The last time I used a Mac was in 2005.

Cool, no worries. Out of curiosity, does any use a Mac and have this issue too? I just logged onto Safari to see if it might be different - nope. Same. Grrr. Very frustrating.

Just tested posting a list on another forum I frequent (a photography one - not music related) and it worked perfect. As it did on the old HH website. Is there some little tweak that's changed that I can alter somehow from the last site to now?

What software and version is that board running? There are a myriad of forum software packages out there (phpbb, mybb, vbulletin, etc.) and they're all different on how they handle uploads and attachments, plus they can all be configured differently.

Unless it's Invision Power Board v4.3.x, you can't really draw any conclusions.

Oh shit, how do I find that out? The website is ausphotography.net.au - don't know if you can tell from that, but that's beyond my realm of understanding. ;)

So when this board was updated to the new format, it was changed from the old one and now handles these lists differently? Or is it really somehow just me and something I'm doing here?

Okay, so it's definitely a Mac issue as I just jumped on my wife's PC and it works fine. Grrr. Why is Apple so f*cking difficult?!

    • Man, I really miss places like this! I could spend hours in them just looking at all the stuff. You’re a lucky man to live near there.
    • New album out June 28. Not my style per se, but well executed IMO.
    • "Still in Love" and "Sweet Melody" by Lancia
    • I posted about this record store (well, CD store really... it has a fair amount of vinyl, but the focus is CDs) 2 years ago. I go there about once a year, and every single time I do I keep kicking myself to go there more often. Not only for the sheer enjoyment of being able to shop the music genres we love and view all these releases in hand, but because it's so damned overwhelming. There's never time to go through things at leisure, pulling out boxes under racks to rummage, because even flying through things and NOT exploring new artists, it's still 3-4 hours to go through the alphabet... let alone stopping and using their listening station (they'll let you listen to used/opened material, not still sealed merch). It's only an hour and a half drive for me each way, so there's really ZERO excuse for me not going over there more frequently. This time I remembered to take a bunch of pictures, pulling out releases from artists we enjoy just to show what they had in stock... a lot of material you'll never see at any mainstream store (even if there is any that carry CDs anymore). Sure, the prices are more expensive than what you'll pay at Amazon and other online stores, but they're not as bad as you would think, and there are bargains to be had amongst the used material when it comes to OOP discs. And to be fair, being able to view all this stuff in-hand is worth it IMO. (Although every now and then you'll see an OOP disc that is WAAAAAAAY overpriced, but at least they have the odd and unusual.) They have one of those old-school "buyer club" stamp cards, with 20 spaces. One stamp per disc purchased. Every other stamp you get a dollar off, and when you fill a card you get $16.99 off your purchase and then you get a new card. On your birthday, you get $1 off every CD and that's on top of the buyer club card discounts. First the pics from when I was going through the aisles, starting with some general pics. Every single artist has its own title card, so look at the variety and depth of the artists. Also, look at the overstock in boxes underneath all the racks! That's the shit I never have time to go through (except when there's a specific artist I'm focusing in on). You've got CDs in the racks, then ringing the entire room is a shelf of box sets and limited editions, then above that VHS tapes, and above that vintage audio equipment. Sections for DVDs and blu-rays (not just music, but movies as well, including a small section of 4K and 3D titles). There's a smaller upper room level that is nothing but vinyl. If you're going to go, plan at least a full day, not just a quick drive-by. They're open from 11AM - 7PM Eastern Time.     Expensive at $249.99, but how many places have a still-sealed copy of the Vanden Plas Epic Works box set???     And now the stuff I picked up this trip. Most is completist fodder. There are a few artists where I literally want an example of every single pressing, even if I already have other label/year/country versions... call me OCD.               I picked up this one for trade/resale even though I already have it, as it is the LOOOONG out of print original fan club edition.     Hmmm... didn't know there was a solo effort, and it seems to be thematically related to the Threshold album "Legend of the Shires".       More OCD completist fodder. I didn't know that Avalon Records (Japan) licensed releases for South Korea.         Live albums aren't normally my thing, but this appears to be way out of print, and for $10 why not?   A few OOP releases for my multichannel audio collection       I'll be posting more about these once I get my shit together, but I'm WAAAAAAAAAY fucking late to the game when it comes to the Jethro Tull 40th anniversary CD + DVD special editions. They only reason I knew about them at all is that I saw a blurb about the 40th anniversary edition of "Broadsword and the Beast", which is my alltime favorite JT album, the first one I ever heard, and I love the album cover... which led me down the rabbithole of all these anniversary editions and their multichannel mixes. Unfortunately a few of them are now OOP and insanely in the $150-300 range. I ordered all of the ones that were still in print (or that had been reprinted), but there were still 4 that I needed... and they had one of them.   And lastly, the most expensive purchase of the day, going back to previous box set discussions, this was one that wasn't on my radar at the time it came out. Based upon eBay listings, it's now a tough find... and they had one still sealed. No, it's not the Amazon exclusive that was signed by Biff Byford, but autographs aren't important enough for me to spend the $500-$1,000 that the signed version now brings. This one will do nicely at a fraction of the cost... a huge and hefty tome (literally).   So when all was said and done, a great (and expensive!) shopping day, but a place I wholeheartedly recommend visiting should you find yourself out here in flyover country. • What's this one mate? A guess at the previous riddle or a new one?
    • At the risk of sounding foolish once again... I don't get it.
    • Album out May 31 on Metalopolis Records. The last album was stellar.
