Never heard of them before.

The posted song has a pretty unique style.
I like it.

Amber Galactic was my favourite album of 2017 by some distance.

no definitely not prog.

the first 2 albums had one long track on each but Amber Galactic was all 4 mins songs in a standard verse chorus structure.

I’m so late to the party...but better late than never. I downloaded all their stuff and it’s freaking brilliant.

Well, not exactly, in AG there was Midnight Flyer with 6:07, Domino 5:00, and Saturn In Velvet with 7:26. About genre, in Wikipedia they are classified both as Hard Rock and Progressive Rock (see at the right side, in Genres):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Night_Flight_Orchestra

although in the main text only says they are a hard rock band, so...

My own opinion is that they should be catalogued as Classic Rock perhaps. But better forget genres and just enjoy the music. And in Amber Galactic there was truly a lot to enjoy.

true. But Saturn is a red herring as the song basically ends just over 5 mins. It's not really prog as such.

Most of their songs are just standard structure.

Not that it matters - just wouldn't want people reading this thread to be put off listening by thinking it's prog.

I was kinda taking the piss a bit by labeling them.

To me it sounded like that, but I've only heard one song.
Regardless, how they are classified is irrelevant compared to if you enjoy them or not.

If I hear a great rap song I'll listen to it. This just doesn't happen though :)

My originla point was that they sounded pretty unique.

I've heard samples of nearly every song and it sounds absolutely outstanding.

In fairness Lovers sounds the weakest track, even though I like the song.

Loved the first single This Time....basically my fav song this year.

Really? I love the debut. It's the 2nd release which was a blip imo. 4 or 5 fantastic tracks but some more average stuff as well.

Amber Galactic was amazing and easily my fav album of 2017. I've also played it more than any album in 2018 too.
