No wonder you hate the year... I would too if they were my favourite from it. ;) You should reference my list for some albums that were actually good (minus those few exceptions that do rate a mention on both lists. ;)

In fairness to Gibbo. I'm pretty unfamiliar with this lot too.

I'll check them out, but I'd be amazed if many eventually stand a chance at actually breaking my own personal top 20 for 1990 as I pretty much extensively listened to most stuff from that year (discarding and not buying what I thought was weak) as it was released.......

We'll see.

Those top 6 are utterly essential.

BANG GANG is the one that didn't work out well for me. My rating is around 73.7% which is way below the chart and consider them a second rate of PBF with weaker vocal and musicianship.

Nope - haven't heard one of those ... I may have to look them up (if only to keep Geoff quiet!)

From Geoff's list (ignoring the very small number of albums we agree on):

Don Dokken - Up From The Ashes - this one didn't do anything for me when it was released, I doubt it will do anything for me now :)

Heart - Brigade - I was put off Heart after 'Bad Animals' came out, and this album has got 'All I Wanna Do ...' on it, which I can't stand

Alias - Alias - I've got this album. It's okay, but I don't play it often enough for it to be an absolute favourite

Heavens Edge - Heavens Edge - fair point, I ought to revisit this one

Firehouse - Firehouse - as with Heaven's Edge, I may have been a bit hasty when it comes to Firehouse

Jon Bon Jovi - Blaze Of Glory - I like the title track. That's it

Cheap Trick - Busted - never much liked latter-day Cheap Trick

Fastway - Bad Bad Girls - never bothered with Fastway, too many other bands to listen to

D'Molls - Warped - another good shout. I don't have this album any more, and had forgotten all about it (sorry!)

Company Of Wolves - Company Of Wolves - I've always heard that this is a good album. Perhaps I should give it a listen?

Definitely disagree with that. I prefer PBF considerably, but I'd say Bang Gang were better song writers (technically, especially lyrically) and better musicians. I love both bands, but defo prefer PBF.

And yeah dudes, be sure to check out the list of at least the top ones. Boystown, I think, was only released in about 2005 for the first time (I think???), but it is from 1990. Excellent album you guys will dig. Pure class:

Heartless in only an EP - hard to find, but re-issued on Retrospect and a very good EP.

Also, be warned that Holy Soldier are silly christians, but a little less obvious than others and an extremely good band, even if only for their first two albums. A lot of the time it's not even massively obvious they are singing about Jesus and equally stupid nonsense.

Hericane Alice - surprise you guys don't know this one as guys in this band went on to form Bangalore Choir. It's a ball-tearer for the most part, though I fear the vocals might put some new listeners off, but stick with it. In fact, if you don't absolutely love this song, perhaps just don't bother with it. It's s slightly thin sound, but I live for shit like this:

And I'm surprised you guys don't know the Dominoe album... a rather popular AOR band, I thought.

Have always loved that Hericane Alice disc, brilliant,my fav from it being Too Late, excellent stuff :)

Yeah, my favourite song too. The album holds a special place for me as it is one of probably only two albums that I originally owned as an LP which I could just not stop playing, even though I never played LPs. But this and Treat's 'Dreamhunter' were by far the most played LPs that ever stepped through my door. Getting each on CD were the best days of my early life. It's a killer disc.

I just found out about DOMINOE too and I think the album is very good, probably worth between 84%-88%, but that's my first spin, will see how it fares after 3-4 spins later but I reckon won't be much further from that.

Yeah, I rated it 84%, which I think is an excellent score.

Fantastic and underrated album from 1990 Apocrypha - Area 54. Probably not of interest to too many on here though...

Have to agree to disagree on that one! :D

Another great year. Full verdict (although bound to have forgotten some); each list starting with the best album.

Some out and out classics, including these 10/10 masterpieces, as close to perfection as it gets:

Megadeth - Rust In Peace

Warrior Soul - Last Decade Dead Century

Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss

Trouble - Trouble

These are pretty close and would be 9-9.5/10:

Judas Priest - Painkiller

Love/Hate - Black Out in the Red Room

Anthrax - Persistence Of Time

Apocrypha - Area 54

Ratt - Detonator

Thunder - Backstreet Symphony

Death - Spiritual Healing

Yngwie Malmsteen - Eclipse

Obituary - Cause of Death

Pretty Maids - Jump The Gun

And these are worth an honorary mention - some great tracks, but some filler too:

Deicide - Deicide

Cinderella - Heartbreak Station

Damn Yankees - Damn Yankees

Bad Company - Holy Water

Queensryche - Empire

Some very good albums in that list, BGF ... some odd choices, too ... Bad Company? I wouldn't have thought their particular 'ouevre' was your thing at all!

Any album with a song as good as "Stranger Stranger" deserves recognition. Just a wonderful, wonderful tune!

Same for Empire, really - pretty poor album overall, but with two fantastic songs (the title track and "Jet City Woman") that elevate it above the majority.

What? Then why would it even get a mention? Was it that bad of a year for you?
