Hilarious!!! had me splitting my sides too ;)

Say what you will this album puts everything so far released in 2014 to shame.

Ridiculously awesome.

Yep, they did it again.

Excellent tune!

I'll be the first to admit that I hate their childish and ridiculous lyrics....but this tune was one of the better ones I've ever heard from them. Ralph found his niche by being a spoof/parody...much like Spinal Tap, and good for him if he can make a living out of it. But I didn't like Spinal Tap and, for the most part, I don't like Steel Panther due to their silly and OTT lyrics. I think they could still parody a band by the ott style and performance, but using those lyrics just takes it all away for me. And......I know they could make a normal kick ass hard rock record that would sell respectably in our community. Their tunes...without the lyrics...are excellent for the most part.

I also think it's a sad state of affairs when the spoof is more popular than the 'normal' bands of the genre.......but, and I always say this......to each their own.

Not really because the point is it goes beyond the genre. Yeah there will be people who love the genre who are put off by it "mocking" their glorious music, but the fact is a lot of fans are hair metal fans, and unlike hair metal, it also attracts people who dont normally like the genre "because" its a parody. No different to people liking a Weird Al parody, but hating the artist he is parodying.

Its because despite some peoples distaste for rude lyrics, a lot of people want something that entertains them, and having a comedy/music crossover gives them something different. No different in fact to sometimes wanting to watch a serious drama film, and other times wanting to watch a slapstick comedy.

Some parody films like Airplane or Naked gun for instance are more popular than the films they parody, but that does not make that a said state of affairs.

Simple fact is that hair metal has been a niche genre for over 20 years now, and to have any band from that genre get such a positive reaction, parody or not, should be seen as a good thing.

I'd much rather have someone talk to me about how good Steel Panther is than talk to me about Kanye West or Miley Cyrus.

I'll read more in depth later, but first thoughts are I totally agree with Glen. New disc murders anything that's been released this year and they are officially, without doubt, now 3/3 in terms of killers discs. Would be hard to rank the 3 after time with the new one.

The thing that really stands out about this band/CD is I've heard about 30 albums from this year (most only once or twice so far) and I could already remember every single song on this after a single listen, and not a thing from the others, except maybe Michael Paynter. Each song has a distinct hook and is immediately memorable, to me at least. Based on this initial thoughts (first spin);

1. "Pussywhipped" 4:37 ; good hard rock opener... opens the album in similar style to the last disc
2. "Party Like Tomorrow is the End of the World" 4:01 ; good fun hard rocker
3. "Gloryhole" 4:32 ; the first sign of some wild lyrics, and this delivers. Killer tune, great lyrics.
4. "Bukkake Tears" 4:47 ; prior to the release of this album I singled out this title as my favourite track name... jeez do I know how to pick 'em! Stunning melodic rock and the lyrics, whilst being pretty heavy (lol, kind of sad in a really funny and dark way) are great too. My first pick for favourite track on the disc.
5. "Gangbang at the Old Folks Home" 3:47 ; absolutely killer track. In my top 3 or 4. Killer tune. Lyrics as wrong as 'Handicapped Slut,' but I can't help but love it.
6. "Ten Strikes You're Out" 3:24 ; solid straight ahead hard rocker like the opener. Keeps you hooked for the lyrical story. One of the more tame songs for skirt wearers, but a good one.
7. "The Burden of Being Wonderful" 3:29 ; I think I said that this would grow on me, and man is it. This'd be in my top 5 of the disc too. Tame lyrics for SP, but that said, some of my favourite of their lyrics, and I actually find this really funny... and it's a killer melodic song.
8. "Fucking My Heart in the Ass" 4:14 ; killer hard rocker, again, with killer lyrics. Love the end choruses.
9. "B.V.S." 3:57 ; the honour of the funniest track on the CD would have to go to this one. F*cking hilarious... and a killer tune too, of course.
10. "You're Beautiful When You Don't Talk" 3:49 ; more stunning melodic rock. Probably my 2nd favourite on the disc because it's brilliant pure melodic rock. More tame lyrics so that even the haters can enjoy this one. I actually found myself wishing the lyrics were a bit more traditional SP with regard to what else she's good for when she's not talking...
11. "If I Was the King" 3:42 ; another good funny hard rocker. Some no doubt controversial lyrics for people to have a cry about, but another outright winner.
12. "She's on the Rag" ; brilliant closer, and probably my 3rd favourite song on the CD. Crazy wrong lyrics again, but too funny to dislike it. Rounds out another killer disc.

wot he said....although Overland, Confess, Pretty Wild and Pretty Maids are pretty damned awesome too so its a close run thing for me and i'm not even close to laying a rating on any album yet this year.

Of course HEAT lands in a week as well......

I knew I was missing one. I do agree, that new Confess one is awesome. A really great disc and worthy of a spot not far behind SP. I like Overland and Pretty Wild, but much prefer the Steel Panther and Confess albums.

On Pretty Maids, love the 4 new tracks and the remakes are all solid (if not overly different) but it's hard to rank this one as it's basically a 4 track EP. ;)

A parody for parody's sake is fine. I wasn't speaking to that aspect of it. Weird Al was popular doing it in the 80's.....yes...and now Steel Panther have the trophy, and good for them. Although they're parodying a genre and not a specific artist, I'll give you the analogy that they're at least paradoies. Still doesn't mean I have to enjoy or like it.....just as you might...or might not. It's all personal opinion.

And, I don't despise 'rude' lyrics....to me, those lyrics are aimed at a high school mindset and The Jerry Springer crowd. Childish....and stupid.....just like the people who love Jerry Springer. It's the lowest common denominator in society that those shows and this record pander to. All in the name of 'entertainment'...lol If you love it....well, then by God...love it.....but, just as you love it....I will hate it and think that it truly is a sad state of affairs.

The fact that you use an analogy that you'd rather have someone talk to you about them than Kanye West or Miley Cyrus is disingenuous to the discussion. The more appropriate analogy would be....that you love the fact that people are talking about Steel Panther rather than W.E.T., Crash Diet or any other hard rock act of note that could be discussed....but is not.

No, my analogy is correct as the point is during the 80s, bands like WET, Crash Diet and yes, Steel Panther, would have stood on equal ground to the popular music and rap artists of their day for popularity, and today, there are no rock bands of the hair metal genre can truly say that.

So if one of these hair metal bands, albeit a parody one, is able to make a small dent into the public concious, then as I say, the truly sorry state of affairs is that nobody is talking about hair metal to the same degree as flavour of the month pop artists.

The other sorry state of affairs is when people who dont like Steel Panther throw out insults like ".to me, those lyrics are aimed at a high school mindset and The Jerry Springer crowd. Childish....and stupid.....just like the people who love Jerry Springer. It's the lowest common denominator in society that those shows and this record pander to. All in the name of 'entertainment" and then follow it up with "and if you like it, thats fine" when basically you have just called us all stupid. Thanks, I really appreciate the fact that listening to something musically makes me stupid.

And if you think my analogy is wrong, how on earth can you think Steel Panthers comedy and Jerry Springers car crash tv are even remotely similiar, and appeal to the same demographic?

Yeah mate, this is the bit that stood out to me too. I'm not having a go at Jim as he's a great chap, but if I'm not mistaken, you're a religious man and like christian rock music, and it's lyrics? Now, to me personally, that lyrical content is moronic. As in, really, really stupid... on par with a mature adult singing serious songs about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.

But there is a really massive difference between Steel Panther and christian music in general. One is done in the name of good natured fun, the other is deadly serious. Honestly, I think Steel Panther are intelligent, if anything. Their lyrics are hardcore, pornographic and plain offensive in most cases, but they're not like anyone else's. They're not beating around the bush. They're doing something unique enough that it has stood out above all of their peers and brought them a great deal of success.

Their lyrics are well crafted, have caused a stir and have earned them a hell of a lot of money. I'd say they're pretty damn smart... any funny. On the flip side, the problem with christian music is that they're not joking. Their lyrics are far more stupid, and sadly serious. There is no joke or parody to hide behind. That garble is sincere, and you honestly think Steel Panther and their audience are more stupid than those bands and their audience?

Like you say, if you like it that's fine. I know one thing for sure. If I had the option to take life tips from a christian band or Steel Panther, I'd get a whole lot more logical sense out of the guys from Steel Panther. ;)

And for the record, what makes a politically correct sense of humour more intelligent than a non-politically correct sense of humour? Is there research to prove that? Just because you find humour in jokes about politics and mathematical equations, doesn't automatically make you more intelligent than someone who finds amusement in Steel Panther. Well, I don't think so anyway...

Yeah, it's pretty out there, but hilarious all the same. I honestly can't believe what these guys get away with in such a poofterized and politically correct world. It gives me that little bit of faith that maybe the entirety of the human race is not a complete f*ck up and some of us can still have a laugh, even if it's wrong as hell.

Disgusted by that video??

I wasn't disgusted...it was disgusting. And I'm far from sensitive, can't you tell? ;)

Actually, Geoff I'm not a Christian! lol But, yeah....I have a ton of hard rock christian acts/releases in my collection. A collection that spans every genre and well over 10,0000 releases, so I do own a few Christian bands stuff. I don't get all warm and fuzzy over overtly Christian lyrics either but I can enjoy the music, just as I can enjoy Steel Panther's music but think their lyrics are for teenagers. When weird Al came out in the 80's I was a teenager and then a college age kid. His shit was stupid then.......just as I think Steel Panther's shit is over the top ridiculous and stupid.

And, Nick C.........yeah.......I guess I am making the point that if you enjoy Steel Panther on the same level that people enjoy Jerry Springer, then I guess I would throw you into that category in my opinion (in this instance). That's what makes the ability to have an opinion great.....we don't all agree. Do I think I'm 'better than you'......no, because I realize it's only entertainment that we're discussing....and you wouldn't be the first that I would disagree with on that and it's about THIS particular stuff...not life as a whole. You and I have co-existed on this website for over 10 years...and we definitely see 'eye to eye' on many many things....just not Steel Panther. It's no different than if I were hanging out with my friends and I called one of them an idiot for liking them.....they would look at me and say 'fuck off, they rock!' and I would look back and probably tell them some other shit and we would laugh and move on......same here for me.

I always find it interesting that because myself....and I know, Jez....some others on here think the way we do that we are then categorized as 'old', 'sensitive', or whatever you want...but in all aspects of life that wouldn't be correct. But when it comes to this crap.....yeah....you can call me all of those things if it makes ya feel better about your own choices. I don't hold those opinions against anybody....because I know the score.....

Glen.....yeah...it is a damn shame that their music (which really rawks) has to be relegated to the parody bin. I have music with Ralph on it doin' his thing and he's excellent. Saw him live with L.A. Guns too....dude has it vocally. A true talented individual.....heck...they all are damn good at their craft. To me, and to some degree....it's a waste.....

In the end, Nick and a host of others on here......we all like what we like....we all think maybe something is better than something else....we all think someone is crazy....or an idiot....are awesome....or whatever....but we still have on common bond....and that is that we all truly, truly LOVE rock and roll....and that we cannot deny!!

Rock on.....** walks away thinking....(maybe Morton Downey Jr...would have been a better analogy)....lol**

Hooks are hooks whoever writes them. And they are in abundance here.

But to each their own.
