21 essential albums

Recommended Posts

Wow 12 years in and that's the essential list....fuck me what have I missed out on?? Thank goodness theres another 88 years to go - plenty of time to correct early screw ups.

Don't own one of them but the missus has Adele 21 (oh nooo!) and the Amy Wino one (jeeez dullllllll or I think it's that one!) I nearly bought the White Stripes - Elephant album the other day at a charity shop for £1 coz I like Seven Nation Army - but I passed.

Actually I found a good quote the other day which pretty much sums up a lot of what I get bombarded with on TV and radio and various other parts of the media.

" a music industry full of created plastic, mindless pathetic artists that brainwashes today's kids into little debased sluts and emasculated men. Music is a form of expression, all that is expressed in the mainstream is how to be cool. pathetic."

Good quote mate. I feel like I've turned into my folks when I say that modern popular music is rubbish, but it's all so generic and bland. I really hate it - you just keep hearing the same r'n'b/dance/soul-type tunes again and again and again. People might slate 70s and 80s pop, but at least there was some originality and songs.

BTW, I really hate the White Stripes too. There's only one - or you might say two - things I like about them. Here's a clue:

No doubt that modern pop music is the worst it's ever been. I couldn't imagine growing up with this shit and it makes my 'RAGE' days look wonderful by comparison.

BUT, in saying that, this does seem to be true - "that brainwashes today's kids into little debased sluts." And that alone - f*ck music! - actually makes me genuinely sad that I didn't grow up in this generation. I only see it from the outside, but there do seem to be so many cheeky little sluts around these days, that just weren't present in my youth. And the quality of them... yowser. Oh well, what do you do?

End of the day, it may be a bad time to be young musically, but definitely a better time if you're a young dude who likes sluts.

    • I wanted to talk about this band, The Lost. This mourning I was driving in to work, flipping stations. I hit a few college stations, because their play lists are all over the place. And I love hearing young students miss pronounce Van Halen. Anyway, The Lost came on. I saw them on a Thursday night once at Club Bene in NJ. They would have like 8 bands on Thursdays and these guy stood out. Then like a year later, I see them on MTV. Then my buddy, who is a guitar tech, called me up and said do you wanna see the Lost, we’ll get in for free. I was like sure. Then he calls me back and says, they need some guitar strings and we have to go early and knock on the back door. It was cool, we all hung out and shot the shit before the show. The funny thing was, this was during the unplugged trend. And it was advertised as the Lost unplugged. All the local bands brought their stools and played unplugged. When the introduced the Lost, FULL ELECTRIC!  Cool as hell. Then I remember WNEW radio was goi g to have them play a free concert on the steps of city hall in NYC. So the played and hyped the band up until the concert. Then basically stopped playing them.  thanks for reading another long John story. More to come. Lol
    • I think about this often. The first two albums are amongst my favourite.
    • Pretty sure there used to be one here that people would add to and repost as they saw fit. Anyone have a list of upcoming releases? Just saw that the Gun album was out, last I recall I posted saying I was looking forward to it, next thing I know it's been out for over a month. Don't wanna miss anything.
    • 4 out of 11 tracks is still quite a few. If it was one or two, yeah that would not be many, but four is 36% of the songs that were supposed to be on it.
    • "Listen to Your Heart" and "Love Prevails" by Biloxi
    • I read somewhere once they got paid millions by the record company NOT to release the third album. Must have had a great contract. But seems like bad business from the company end whichever way you look at it.
    • Classic for me...loved it from the minute in was released and still to this day it gets constant spins
    • Nice, loved the debut
