Hard Rock Covers of Pop Songs

Surprised no-ones mentioned Fm - heard It Through The Grapevine

Probably because it is a terrible song and there is not a band on the planet that could make it sound even listenable. ;)

As for this thread, I think it's safe to say Mike covered it thoroughly. Many, many tunes in those lists I enjoy.

Okay mate, you have me totally stumped with that one. Was that a typo? What are those keys? Are they even from a keyboard? Please ease my confusion!

2 Leann Rimes songs sung by Danny Vaughn (From the Inside)

Suddenly

Damn (one of my favorite songs of ALL TIME)

Totally backed!

Perfect World's version of Alanis Morrisette's 'Just like a pill' is great too.

As is Shadows Fade - 'Run to me' (Clay Aiken cover)

Maybe my favorite of all... PAT BENATAR ~ "Helter Skelter"

I'm sure most prefer the Motley Crue version... but not I.

~ maybe not such a "pop song" though.

Great, heavy version. :headbanger:

Vow Wow also does a pretty decent cover of that song on their Helter Skelter CD

'We will Rock You' - Warrant who make it sound a bit like Cherry Pie!

Yeah, they absolutely nailed their version of the tune.

Had to check that one out - surely some sort of joke? Yeah okay, the guitar is really good, but overall it just sounds quite silly to me. A great song, but no one gets close to Sinatra's rendition.

BTW, You Spin Me Round; nothing against Gemini Five, but an annoying cover of an annoying song imo.

While I'm thinking ABBA throw in Valentine's S.O.S. as well - not for everyone but pure genius IMO.

AT VANCE do the best S.O.S.......It kicks ass big time !!!!!!!!!!

I had always thought the Black Sweden version was about as good as it was gonna get. Checked the At Vance version out though, and daaaaaaaaamn, this might be better. Can't. Play. It. Loud. Enough. Headphones. Start. To. Buzz.

More goth than hard rock rock but Bauhaus's version of Bowie's is fantastic

Skin had quite a few good pop covers on the bonus disc that came with the limited edition version of their debut CD:

Unbelievable (EMF)

Dog eat dog (Adam Ant)

Express yourself (Madonna)

Pump it up (Elvis Costello)

Hangin on the telephone (Blondie)

Should I stay or should I go (The Clash)

Also, Gun did a few on one of the CD singles:

Killing in the name of (Rage Against The Machine)

Are you gonna go my way (Lenny Kravitz)

Panic (The Smiths)

Mentioning Prince a few times!

Enuff Z Nuff do a killer version of 'When doves Cry' on their brand new album!!

Got to hear that. Shame on me but I like the original. :anon:

No. Prince was good. Especially when Wendy and Lisa were in the band.

The solo in Let's Go Crazy is intense!

And his Purple Rain film is as good rock n roll movie as you're gonna get!
