Blocked Countries

... All this talk of the Italian postal system! Believe me the UK one isn't much better.

I agree with that. UK's third-party parcel handling people suck. They sit on the parcels in their delivery vans and deliver when they feel like it most of the time.

Have had no problems with Poste Italiane. More from other countries and sometimes crazy deadbeat buyers in USA expecting parcels to arrive overnight when they pay the minimum in postage choices. :screwy:

Hi

I think I need to express my opinion on this polemic. I had at least 10 lost packages coming from the USA, and 3-4 I sent myself without receipt during 2009. In this case, all of them just replaced. From the packages I didn´t receive I got 50% of my money back. The others are gone.

Question: Should I block american buyers and begin to sell on ebay.co.uk????????? Or stop to buy from US sellers??????????

Canadians are also hard to deal with, I have 2 big problems last year, and I guarantee it was not my fault. If you canadian wants to block me, no problem, I won´t buy from you, unfortunately to whom that believe I am serious.

Italian postal service is really very bad (actually slower than danger).

Brasil hasn´t the best postal service, but it´s not the worst.

the question is: you need to check to whom you are selling/buying, not his native country....only my modest opinion, counting with thousands of transactions over the last 15 years. I didn´t block any country, just persons. I can´t generalize.

Beware with prejudice!

all the best

If that decision is the most prudent for your business model, then yes, that is exactly what you should do. If not, then no.

I can speak only for myself, but this is a BUSINESS decision, not a PREJUDICE decision.

Given the ease with which someone can win a PayPal item-not-received claim, if I cannot insure to a country, I won't ship there. Period. It has nothing to do with whether I like or dislike people there.

I too, have had a higher number of lost item claims from Italy, but since I can still insure to Italy without difficulty, I continue to ship there.

Beware with prejudice!

Has nothing to do with it, at least on my part. I won't ship PayPal-paid goods to Brazil because my insurance company will not insure to that country due to high loss rates. If someone from Brazil wants to buy from me and pay via Western Union Money Transfer or by sending cash by Registered Mail, then I am *MORE* than happy to ship there. If they will only use PayPal, then the only other option I can give them is to pay for Global Express Mail, which is tracked and insured. Registered Mail is useless on international transactions.

Ultimately, it's this simple: Given the liability exposure that a seller has due to PayPal's requirements, if I cannot protect myself against loss, theft, or damage, I will not ship to that destination.

Any of us can only speak from experience. I have only had major problems with one buyer and he was in Brazil. I had a less significant problem with another buyer in Brazil. I have also sent 3 or 4 CDs to Brazil without incident. However, as a percentage, it is high and I can't afford to take the risk any more. I have no problem with Brazil at all, maybe it was a dishonest buyer and not the postal system (and dishonesty occurs in all countries of the world) but I just can't take the chance.

Dan,

Just to finalize, I would like to say I feel some kind of prejudice against brasilian collector´s since I am a HH member and an ebayer (10 years+), because one or two bad guys here didn´t do the right thing. I spend years trying to build a strong reputation, and I think now it´s dangerously threated. Just read some posts.

Does anybody remember Al Natale or Lonnie Holdaway? The problem are the persons, not the country...the sellers claiming against brasilian traders need to check with who they are dealing, the same with italians, canadians, germans, japanese, aussies, russians, etc, etc...

Anyway I respect your point of view if the matter is only business.

Sincerely,

Adriano

Not shipping to a specific destination has nothing to do with the people that live there. It's the fact that too many problems occur with the postal services and packages that don't get there as well as no one will insure a package sent these questionable destinations.

Like Dan, I'd do transactions with Western Union or via cash, to my blocked destinations. But no way will I go through Paypal, because odds are I'm getting tagged a with payment reversal because the item was not received. Since Ebay only lets one do transactions through Paypal, my hands are tied, unless the buyer contacts me directly and offers cash or payment with Western Union.
