My wife gave up on trying to break me of my "addiction" to CDs many years ago. Then again, I'm not a power-buyer/ mega-trader like a lot of folks on here, so I'm not constantly coming thru the door with giant stacks of new CDs. Most of the time, if I get two or three new CDs a month, I'm havin a good month. (Tho I've had a pretty good run the last couple of weeks... hahaha).

 

The only time the topic ever came up was Years back before we were married, when my then-fiancee and I shared a small apartment together. It just so happened that on my way home to this apartment from work, I passed a used CD store every day. (Man, I miss that place!) ... needless to say I stopped there on my way home fairy regularly. One time I walked in with a stack of 6 or 7 new acquisitions in my hand and my wife sez "Are you EVER going to stop buying CDs?"

 

I actually had to think about it for a minute (because the idea was so foreign to me) before I could come up with a proper answer to this query. And that answer was, and I quote:

 

"Um...no."

 

The subject has not come up since. I guess my wife figured that as long as I'm not blowing my money on strippers, booze, porn, gambling or any other vices, then CDs are a pretty harmless thing to be hooked on.

 

And that's why I love her!!

This is a great thread and I know where all of you are coming from as I've been on both sides. I dated a girl for a couple of years and things were getting pretty serious. At the time, I had my own house (which she stayed at alot) with a locked closet for my cds. At first, nothing was said about it. Then, as I would have new cds setting out, I'd get comments like "more?". I knew this was going to be a problem. Finally, one of our last conversations went something like this:

Her: "Your music obsession is getting in the way of our relationship"

Me: "Actually, our relationship is getting in the way of my music obession"

Needless to say we were done. Fast forward several years later and I'm in a really good position. My wife owns a dance studio and actually goes cd shopping with me. I find music on-line and help her pick out music for routines. Can't complain at all.

As usual, the package came on friday as my wife was home. I got the mail and hid the package in my car. While she took a shower on saturday morning, I ran out to my car and hid it in the closet.

All I can say is when you move in with a girl she's bound to change over time. In my case if my ex's weren't nagging me about getting a hair cut it was about getting cds. I've never been one to compromise any of my passions & it's not like I'm spending any of thier money in our jointly opened bank account.

 

The girls I've got just can't seem to get the fact that I've got things going on my life apart from them, as much as it's sad to see them go ultimately it'd be worse if I decided to stop buying music.

 

What are you thoughts on this G, what'd you do if you were ever in my situation?

Mate, pretty simple to me. If they can't handle you having your own interests then it's not worth it. You can still have some fun with them, but if they're seriously going to try and change something you're obviously so passionate about then there's nothing to do but discard them. There are enough girls out there that will respect your right to have your own interest. Even if they internally hate you for it 'cause they're all evil, they wouldn't let it become a relationship hindering issue.

My wife doesn't want to change me all the way, she just wants me to cut down on the spending. We also have two seperate checking accounts .

I do believe she gets jealous because I have a hobby and her only hobby is being the C.D. NAZI.
