Wild Frontier - King of Pentacles

s43srr.jpg

Wild Frontier are a little known hard rock band from Victoria (Melbourne I think) who released this one off CD titled King of Pentacles in 1994. One of the first things I noticed when reading the CD booklet was the name G. Rolie listed as songwriter for track four Hope Youre Feeling Better'.

If for no other reason, track it down so you can listen to Voices in the Storm absolutely stunning!!

Track List

04. Hope Youre Feeling Better
05. Two Worlds Apart
06. Subject No More

Great read Juz, some more info on Wild Frontier. They change their name to Gellyfish, not Beatles influenced band with similar name Jellyfish. And released one cd.

I tried to check out the Wild Frontier song you recommended, but couldn't find it.

YouTube doesn't seem to think they exist and 7wishesmusic.wordpress.com just had images :(

Yes I'm going to avoid putting up full songs/albums for d/l unless they are a promo type item. Reason is I'm too afraid of having my blog shut down as has happened to others. However I will upload some samples and can send you a link to d/l the song or album if you're interested.

I'm into the more straight hard rock/hair metal/sleaze/heavy metal sound.

Can pass on any AOR, and also on all the AC/DC clones.

If you come across anything that might suit, I'd love for you to send me some links, thanks

Devils in Heaven

xqewep.jpg5x7jf6.jpg

"Devils In Heaven were an Australian group often seen touring around the east coast of Australia during the late 80′s and early 90′s. They had a strong following and in 1992 they were on a talent show called Star Search, they took out the major prize, had a single released called Say a Prayer (One departed) and then basically disappeared. They shouldve taken the music scene here by storm as to this day there are still questions asked about the band, what happened to them? What are they doing now? Well, after my quest over many years to track down this man, I was absolutely stoked to be able to talk to Devils front man Dave Whitney about pretty much everything and get these questions answered. No holds barred here and truly some interesting things I never knew about the industry or these talent shows."

Black Rose - Fast Times at Black Rose High (EP)

maiao4.jpg

Not to be confused with a Sydney band of the same name, Melbourne hard rockers Black Rose released an EP titled 'Fast Times at Black Rose High' in 1996. According to details on the CD inserts, the band "formed as a joke" in 1994 and were lucky enough to record this EP in an L.A. studio with the help of producers Daryl Hall & John Oates (!). I strongly suspect those last few pieces of information are also a joke and are characteristic of the jovial lyrics and attitudes of the band members on this EP. Musically this is tongue-in-cheek hard rock with glam-sleaze and punk influences. There are links to a number of other Melbourne bands including Manic Suede featuring Kit Warhurst and David Lord, as well as Dashboard featuring Andre Warhurst and David Lord. Overall this may not be for everyone - but it's good fun Aussie rock and you can't argue with that. A pretty rare CD that I have only ever come across once. Any more information regarding Black Rose would be most welcome.

Track List
01. Fast Times at Black Rose High
02. Fuck Off Back to Byron Bay
03. Tell the Chicks I do Surf
04. Sweet and Sour
05. I Drive a Holden (My Ones a Brown One)
06. Rosso Live at the Dubbo RSL

Now this one is a real mystery! I stumbled upon it recently while looking for something else and decided to pick it up based on the cover art, year of release and the fact that it was advertised as being an Aussie band.

Apart from the minimal details listed on the packaging, there is absolutely no information out there about this band, not even a mention in Chris Spencer’s ‘Who’s Who of Australian Rock‘. I can only assume from the phone number that the band is from NSW.

Despite its demo like production qualities, the three tracks featured on this cassette are really good examples of everything I love about late 80s / early 90s hard rock. In particular ‘Time Will Tell’ is an absolute gem of a track and one that easily ranks among my all time favourite obscure Aussie hard rock songs – pure melodic hard rock bliss!

Note that this band has no connection to Aussie metal band Surrender that featured Dave Compton and released a self titled LP in 1984. I did check with Dave about this and he seemed to recall another Aussie band of this name from around 1989-93.

Any more information about Surrender would be really appreciated.

Hey Justin, you still doing this thing? I mustn't have been around much when you were doing this but that's a very cool blog. So much stuff I've never seen or even heard of.
