Shotgun (aka Shotgun Messiah)

Did not see any chatter regarding this "reunion" and subsequent live album from half the original members of Sweden's Shotgun Messiah.

"Swedish hard rockers SHOTGUN will release their new live album “Live – Down Decadencia Drive” on May 6 through Livewire/Cargo Records. A rocking new half breed of the original SHOTGUN MESSIAH is now releasing an in your face live album with all the songs from Shotgun Messiah’s highly acclaimed first album. SM Is the result of this collaboration and a damn good live album that captures the nerve, the riffs, the attitude – and that straight-in-your-face-style that once was the trademark of SHOTGUN MESSIAH.

Live – Down Decadencia Drive” track listing:

1. Squeezin Teazin
2. I’m Your Love
3. Bop City
4. Nowhere Fast
5. Dirt Talk
6. Nervous
7. Shout It Out
8. Don’t Care Bout Nothin’

The album was mixed by Chris Laney at LaneyLand and mastered by Classe Persson at CRP Recordings.

SHOTGUN are:

ZINNY J. ZAN – Vocals
STIXX – Drums
ROB MARCELLO – Guitars
CHRIS LANEY – Bass

"SHOTGUN MESSIAH was the pioneers of the glam and sleaze era back in the 80’s and one of the first acts to come out of Sweden to relocate to the U.S. and actually hit the charts and make a name for themselves. With extensive tours, press, radio and TV covering the entire U.S. under the belt for some years, SHOTGUN MESSIAH was worn out in 1993 and decided to call it quits.

Later in the 90’s you could find the former members in bands like MARILYN MANSON, TOM WAITS and ZAN CLAN.

Over the years some of the members in former SHOTGUN MESSIAH has been made aware by their fans that they never got to play their songs live for their supporters inEurope, Latin America or Asia.

Now 25 years after the release of their first album, two of the band’s biggest supporters contacted singer ZINNY J. ZAN and drummer STIXX in order for them to consider a reunion and actually get the opportunity to play these songs for one last tour. An opportunity for the supporters that once missed out to hear the songs live – but also for it to be captured and released as a live album.

THE CATCH, YOU SAY? These two hardcore supporters wanted to see the original line-up reform. Since that was a definite no-go they gladly volunteered to fill the two missing slots. The two fanboys happened to be none other than… Rob Marcello and Chris Laney."

Also what I was thinking. I might check it out just to see if they still sound any good.

Completely pointless without Skold involved in any capacity. No, scrap that. Without Skold or Cody, it really isn't a proper SM related project at all. The song writing and guitar is what made the band who they were. The vocal duties could be handled by Zan or Skold, but Skold has to be there in some capacity.

Yeah, it's just silly. I know they're not using the full band name, but just using the songs alone and selling it as the new version of the band doesn't work with me.

I am curious to hear it though

Really? Wouldn't you rather just hear the debut itself? The guitarwork is going to pale so ridiculously far compared to the debut and although the vocals may be more refined now (maybe) there will be none of the flair and passion and hunger of the debut. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would feel that the debut needs to be re-recorded. No way of improving that one...

I guess they're all mates as this looks suspiciously like the Zan Clan CD and live CD line up.

I'm interested in hearing Marcello trying to deliver that albums guitar parts live!

Hey Dan, can you please delete this comment from my history? ;)

Fuck, that is dreadful. Why would you even do that to yourself? Lead vocals aside, the rest sounds good - especially the guitar. But again, I ask... why? Why re-record what was already fantastic in the first place?

... and for the record, I'll admit I missed the fact that it is a live album. But still... not necessary.

Agreed to the comments saying that this is unnecessary. I wouldn't want to hear the songs from the 1st and 2nd album without Harry Cody. I know that this Rob Marcello is no slouch but THIS IS Shotgun Messiah so it's Harry Cody for me or nothing.

Ooooops! Sorry it's just Shotgun.

No. Just ... no. Without Skol and Cody it's nothing ... just be honest and call it what it is - Zan Clan performing songs from the first Shotgun Messiah album ...

I would never buy this live disc, and as Geoff has said why not just listen to the original. But I tell you what, if this band was playing a local venue in my hometown I'd be super keen to go along and see them, even without some of the original members. Good on 'em for kicking on.
