Best cover of Simon & Garafunkel's Sounds of Silence

The recent Disturbed cover of Sounds of Silence has been getting a lot of praise for their interpretation of the song, especially Draiman's subdued vocals. Others have lauded Nevermore's version for taking a nontraditional approach to the remake.

The Disturbed version is better than I was expecting, but not the best, IMO.

Personally, my favorite is from Heir Apparent from their 1989 album One Small Voice, an underappreciated metal album.

Any other versions that you dig?

I think Disturbed sounded okay but vocally is way too average and this classic needs a harmony duet.

Nevermore's take is definitely a rubbish but I never appreciate them anyway, this song was never intended to be metal-ized.

Heir Apparent is quite nice, a different style and seems the best out of three although I think the original is unbeatable :)

Never heard 'One Small Voice', like to check it out asap

Quoted for truth

Never heard of the band before but purchased their album only yesterday. Funny that the name should pop up so immediately again.

They are all horrible including the original. :)

Can I get a hell yeah?

I think this is SUCH an awful song. I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really fucking hate it.

I was listening to that Disturbed album the other day and kinda dug it, but I thought this inclusion was SOOOOO off the mark it was incredible. Especially when there are something like 5-6 bonus tracks, all of which fit the album 100% better. I really couldn't understand the inclusion at all.

Did I mention I fucking HATE this song, no matter who is doing it? Not even Steel Panther could fix this awful thing.

Yeah, if they changed the lyrics and melody, then you're in with a shot. 'Sound of semen?'

lol. So I'm watching the Aussie X-Factor tonight, and what the fuck? Disturbed are one on it???!!! Couldn't believe it. Then the host introduces them, basically saying this cover song has exploded and the album has been number one twice (?!) in the US and other places worldwide, including Australia. Wow. I had no idea.

I laugh at the simple pop gronks listening to this horrible cover on the show, thinking "let's check out the rest of their stuff, hey." Could surprise a few kids, I predict. Anyway, good luck to the guys, but I stand by every single word I said above. I think it's a horrible version of a horrible song and is completely, 100% out of place on the album. But hey, if it's making the guys in the band millionaires, I'm sure as hell they don't give a fuck about little things like that. :)
