My Stuff on HubPages.com

Fat Freddy

Recommended Posts

Hey Gang: dunno if any of you are familiar with the blogging site "HubPages," but I've recently started a profile on it. I've posted a couple of my CD reviews and over time I'm planning to add much more music, movie and comic-related geeky nonsense. If you wanna check it out, my profile can be found here:

http://hubpages.com/profile/FatFreddysCat

(Before anybody asks, "FatFreddysCat" is an old alias I used online many moons ago. I eventually lopped off the "Cat" and went with plain ol' "Fat Freddy," but I felt it was time to bring it back.

In addition to my stuff there are literally tons of other weird blogs/articles on this site about just about any topic you can possibly think of, so it makes for some interesting (and occasionally hilarious) reading.

Supposedly there's some kinda nonsense involving Google AdSense tied into this site where you can supposedly make a few bucks off of your writings (similar to Examiner.com, I guess), but I haven't explored that side of it yet, I just thought it looked like a neat place to post some of my deranged ramblings. Hope you dig it.

Good review of the Accept disc and yes still a great great album even a year later. Not only is it there best album in many years but also one of their best albums ever IMO. My only disagreement would be the Eat the Heat album which I still love, but i'm a Reece fanatic. Sure it's not the heavy classic Accept but there's some great songs on there IMO. Can't wait for the follow up to Blood of the Nations. :headbanger:

  • 2 weeks later...

In my latest HubPages entry (inspired by a joke post I made in the "Let's Go Back to 1991" thread), I went for an "Onion" style expose of how the Grunge revolution REALLY happened.

Note to the humor impaired: this entry is a PARODY. No offense was intended.

When Lips and Robb were on that metal show they were talking about having horns and jazz mixed with metal and they said they invented a new genre(of course I'm assuming they've never heard of early Megadeth) and Sebastian Bach called it "Horny Metal" instead of Horn Metal.

Yeah, I saw that interview...funny stuff. I kinda cringed and rolled my eyes when Reiner sez "If Metal on Metal was the future of metal in 1982, Juggernaut of Justice is the future of metal in 2011." I was like "Oh pleeeeeeeeeze." It's good, but it's not THAT good for cryin' out loud. :D

As for them thinking that they've invented a new genre by adding horns to metal, I guess that must mean that even though they're good buddies with Raven and have played many shows with them over the years, they've never heard Raven's "The Bottom Line," "Hyperactive" or "Don't Let It Die," all of which have horn sections in them.

Well, let me tell you guys that if you're thinking of joining up w/HubPages, don't do it thinking it's a get rich quick scheme. I've been there for six weeks now and according to the "earnings" thingy on my profile, I've made a grand total of one cent (!) via Google AdSense. So I guess I shouldn't quit my job to write for this site full time ... haha.

I honestly was surprised to see that I've earned anything at all (but at least it shows that I have the affiliate stuff working correctly, anyway)... I mean, it's a nice idea in theory that somebody will be so moved by my articles on the new Anvil CD or the "Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus" movie that they'll click the Amazon links at the bottom of the page and order a copy immediately so I'd get a cut... but I think we all know how likely that is to happen.

I'm gonna keep posting stuff there simply cuz it's fun, but wow, when I read postings from people there complaining about how they're not making any money, I'm thinking that maybe they've got their sights set a wee bit too high, or they're writing stuff for the site for the wrong reason.

Hey, this is kinda cool. I was just notified that one of my HubPages articles is under consideration for a "HubNugget" award. Articles that get picked as "HubNuggets" are included in HubPages' monthly newsletter, which gets sent out to 130,000 people (!) There's no $$ or prizes involved, but I love the idea that something I wrote would be read by that many folks. But I need your votes to make it happen!!

If y'all would be so kind as to go to the link below and vote for the article "Enter the Asylum: A Descent Into B-Movie Hell!" you would have my eternal gratitude. And hey, read some of my other stuff while you're at it. It's fun stuff (if I do say so myself)

Vote now, vote often, tell your friends, your family, your pets, everyone you know to vote!! Thanks in advance!!

Inspired by the Judas Priest farewell tour announcement, I've been writing a series of articles about the "Best 'N' Worst" of their discography. The first two parts are up, the third will be available after a bit more tweaking/editing.

    • I posed him that exact question on his discord page as to what his future plans are.... He said he plans to relax for a bit, do his You Tube thing, keep writing new music and then will decide how to release that music.  He said as of now he's thinking he'll either do a solo thing or form his own band.  He didn't say this but I'd sort of envision a Daughtry type "band" where he kind of puts a band behind his name. So essentially, I think you're right on with his plans.  Ultimately, I think like you say, the control is a big part of it.  I think he wants to be able to operate on his own schedule to maintain his health and family obligations. It'll be interesting to see what sound the new material takes on.  It would seem logical to think it would be rock/melodic rock of some sort since that's really the type of music he's built his following with but he certainly has shown he can dabble anywhere from AOR to metal.
    • Glad I got to see them with Erik in front. All the best to him, definitely looking forward to his future outings when he is fully recovered. Would be cool to see him form his own band, where he could take control, and play around in different genres, from full on metal, to soothing AOR, the guy is so versatile.
    • Remedy - Crying Heart. One I've just seen thanks to the Iridium channel.  From the upcoming album. It's a Killer.
    • Let's not forget Benny Hill. What a Magnificent show that was.
    • Yeah... I dunno about that. It would be too cringe. Who knows? If I'm high enough, I might submit a video.
    • Yep great track and if you fancy being in the video for "The Feeling" nows your chance.
    • I'm proud to say that I had this single when I was a mere 8 years old. KISS were big down here then. Norman Gunston is Iconic for Aussies of my vintage.  The face ln the bottom left says it all. Hilarious.
    • All in all, this is a great story. Erik played a brilliant, well received, albeit short cameo with one of our favourite bands.  It was a win, win, win. A win for us, a win for Skid Row (the album certainly put them back on the map) and a win for Erik, adding this to his already impressive resume. The fact that it was so amicable with both parties is also great to see.
    • I really like this album - not every song on it but there are some surprisingly catchy melodies all over. Personally I think the singer adds great energy to the mix. It reminds me of the earlier Bai Bang ("closer to you")
