Why are they doing this? Murder by Pride proved they can still write songs, and the covers album showed they can still rock. This feels like a step back.

Not just them. It applies to everyone who does it. Can't understand why they want to re-record their stuff. Weren't they good enough in the first place?

If there's one strong reason is to obtain the right to their previous material that's probably still held by the labels

but other than that, I think they already greatest hits and live album, not to mention DVD of greatest hits, so this one is totally unnecessary

Gotta say, though, a lot of the songs their re-doing are some of their weaker songs. Would it really be considered a best of? I'd hope not. Most/all the classics are basically missing from that list.

I saw the title of the thread and got excited, read the details and lost all enthusiasm entirely.

Not to mention, anybody notice they did NOTHING from two of their best albums???

Which two are you talking about. Against the Law, I assume, which is their best, but what's the other?

'In God We Trust,' obviously.

Like I said, it appears to be in no way, shape or form a "best of," no matter what type of track you prefer.

Yep, what he said. I will still buy this waiting for the new album of course. I absolutely love this band and have spent way too much money on them lol. I own Soldiers in Japan press with the old style box Obi, the Japan version of Yellow and Black and I have a sealed copy of Devil in Japan press with the Angel cover. If I remember right, I got all three from the same guy in Japan for about $1500.

I didn't buy anything else for six months lol!

Just love this band though and all of Sweets solo efforts.

:homer: Doh!

Of course, but my other favourite is The Yellow and Black Attack, which is present, although only two tracks.

Why are they doing this?

It's easier to get rack space in major retailers like Wal-Mart or Best Buy with a "Greatest Hits" pack than with an album of new material that most people won't give a sh*t about.

That said, a whole new album of fresh material is already in the works so it looks like we'll get two Stryper discs in the same year. I'm OK with that.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm actually looking forward to hearing some of these "old" Stryper tunes given an modern-day upgrade, especially since Michael Sweet is on record as saying they now sound heavier, because in my book, heavier is usually better...unless we're talking about women.

Again, my main concern about this is the quality of the tracks they've selected. Of those three, 'More than a man' and 'The rock that makes me roll' are terrible... but that's because they were in the first place. Immediate skips when originally recorded - why re-record them? What it needs is some of their treasures like 'You Won't Be Lonely,' 'Waiting for a Love That's Real' ... and just looking at their first 3 albums I forgot, there's really not much great stuff to choose from. 'In God We Trust' is really where they started to be a decent band. Thankfully they have realised these songs don't need to be re-recorded.

Have you heard the riff on More Than a Man? There is no bad Stryper song in the 80's as far as I'm concerned. And now also a Michael Sweet solo album as well? I'm feeling closer to Him every Day :)

I could seriously pick an EP of good songs off those first three CDs personally. Riff or not, that 'More than a man' is still a very poor song, imo. I'm mostly looking forward to the 2 new songs on this CD.

Geoff, we so often agree on music--and norks--but this time I'm calling foul. "More Than a Man" is one of my all-time favorite Stryper tracks. As Mr. Mullethead has rightfully pointed out, the riff on that track is fantastic and the chorus just soars. I can understand why it's not one of your personal faves, but calling it "very poor" is just...wrong.

As for those 3 newly-recorded tracks...I think they sound great. Frankly, better than I was expecting. Sounds like the tunes have been given a very nice sonic upgrade.

I 'd kill to accomplish my childhood dream of seeing them live (with the bibles as bonus).Gawd, how i used to weave a silk shirt during the mighty solo of surrender. Also i'd love to answer the question of the mighty caught in the middle!
