I believe we don't have a proper thread for this album and the early discussion is only for the band and lumped together with their second album, so here we are, after 5 years, what do you think after revisiting this album ? Please post after you listen to this again, not from your old note

what's your most fave of the disc ?

Love this one, and it got a LOT of play back in 2010.

 

But to be honest, I didn't really like the follow-up... in fact, I disliked it enough that I didn't bother buying their latest release.

 

For me they've just gone too "modern." The debut certainly sounded fresh, but it also sounded like it was made to please the target audience in which I and my cohorts reside. The new stuff... not so much.

'Stay with me' remains one of, if not their best song, in an excellent discography. It's by far and away the best song on this album, without serious contest, despite other good tunes.

Brilliant debut album, with my only critiscism being the lack of punch in the production, especially in the drums department, which were a bit weak. 'Staring At The Sun' and 'Hearts Of Glass' are my two picks, but it is a really consistently good disc all through. I think this snuck in as my number 2 album of the year that year, as it was released in late November/ early December.

Yeah I'm beginning to think that's true because the newer albums play with some modern touch but I'll try to re-listen to the new albums again later. This debut is awesome and probably will remain in the 90% territory after 20 years

I actually think their albums have got better...albeit by a few % points....would need to rate them all back to back tho.

Yeah, I think their albums have gotten better, kind of. For me, the debut is definitely in 3rd place. On preference, I do like their second album best as it probably has about 7 of their 10 best songs so far. However, I think the new one is their most consistent and of a very high level. So it's hard to say exactly where I stand on their discography. I think I prefer 'What the hell' most of all, but as a band I feel they are a better unit now and the sound and style of the last disc is more of what I want from them.

yeah i like to revisit them again after some years to see how the other two holds up but based on my notes, 'What The Hell' is as strong as the debut, however the new one is weaker

The only 'weak' thing about the new album is that silly Def Lepp penned track which sounds completely out of place amongst the other awesome tunes.

saw on facebook that they will start recording their 4th album in Oct 15.

Wowser 'Kiss of Life' 8/10...............remains one of their best songs and the best song live, period.
